I was driving down the highway tonight with the cruise control on and all of a sudden the traction control indicator lit up like a Christmas tree. At the same time the ABS warning light came on and I noticed that on the traction control swith was also illuminated to indicate "off". I pushed the traction control button and it would not toggle back on. I proceeded another 30 miles or so without the lights going back out and then I pulled off of an exit and stopped at a convience store. After grabbing a drink and hanging out for 5 minutes, I started the car again hoping that the lights would reset. Unfortunately they all stayed on for the rest of my drive home. Has anyone experienced this before?

I have never experienced that problem. I think a trip to the dealer is in order.
I would have it checked out ASAP.

It sounds like your ABS computer has a problem. That could be serious. Dealer time.

With all of the rainy weather we have been having,
it sounds like you have a wheel sensor that has shorted out.
The same thing happened on my 98 Contour that had ABS.
It ended up being the Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor.
I think the sensor was about $80.
It had about 80,000 miles on it when it failed,
and it failed in the spring also...

Have you been to the dealer recently? have you had your tires rotated, or had new ones installed? the dealers have been known to rotate the tires from front to back on the Marauder, totally overlooking the fact the fornt tires are a different height than the back ones are, which ofcourse will cause the ABS and T/C lights to go on after awhile, and they will stay on.

24K miles on the car, OEM tires and they have not been rotated in a while. This morning the lights did not stay on after I started the car. After about 20 miles of driving they all came back on. I guess it's time to pay the dealer a visit.

Do you remember going through a PUDDLE before the light came on ?
It may not have happened immediately.
Sometimes it takes a few blocks for the water to work its magic...

Sounds like an ABS Wheel sensor.

There is a code in the computer that will tell what the problem is. Good Luck.

I don't believe they should be rotated at all. There are a couple of threads on this. One by TheDealer stands out.

I do side to side rotations.

I was unable to pull a trouble code with a "borrowed" SCT. The SCT would simply display no DTC's found. It's not a tire rotation issue, they have only been rotated once, side to side.

The Codes for the ABS/TC cannot be pulled by your SCT Scanner.
The SCT can only pull Drivetrain/Emissions trouble codes.

Can anyone confirm if the front and the rear ABS sensors are the same?

Front Wheel Speed sensor is $85.34.
Rear Wheel Speed sensor is $44.08.

I would say they are DIFFERENT...

Can anyone confirm if the front and the rear ABS sensors are the same?I am going through this very problem now.. There is a TSB out on it, which calls for a dedicated ground be wired to the the ABS harness, then if that fails, the harness is to be replaced. The problem stems from a water intrusion into the ABS harness. They mistakenly replaced the wheel sensor first...only to find out that wasn't the problem.
