Sometimes I come across inspirational stuff that's just cool.

In Wired, there's a great story about a group of High School students from a less affluent part of Pheonix that took part in a Underwater Robot building competition against students from Universities across the states, including MIT.... and won the contest!

The crazy part is, these kids, overcoming all odds and being as brilliant as they might be, have no rights to any financial aid and can't afford to go to college?! That's nuts.

The High School District has a fund setup to help them out, I sent $150 on behalf of the site, if anyone wants to follow up on their own, You can send them your own donation via paypal by clicking HERE (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=Partnership%40phxhs%2 ek12%2eaz%2eus&item_name=La%20Vida%20Robot%20 Scholarship%20Fund&no_shipping=0&no_note=1&tax=0&currency_code=USD)...

To make a donation by mail, please send a check payable to "Phoenix Union Partnership - La Vida Robot Scholarship" at:

Too Cool for school!! Seriously, go read the article at Wired (http://wired-vig.wired.com/wired/archive/13.04/robot.html) and help these kids out.

Thank you, Logan! I've met some extraordinary local high school students that participated in http://www.battlebotsiq.com/ with http://www.gearseds.com/. I really wish I had similar opportunities in high school. I know my career interests would have completely changed if those resources were available in the '70s. I did take a mechanical engineering course at MIT while in high school, but we were using popsicle sticks, string and keypunch cards for projects!

Your both right, it's a tough thing to deny education to anyone.

Unfortunately, you're leaving out an important part of the story. These kids are illegal aliens from Mexico, and shouldn't be getting their education at my expense anyway. I happen to live in Phoenix and my property taxes keep increasing to cover the cost of educating way too many illegal Mexicans. I've got an idea - maybe Vicente Fox can pick up the tab for their college education. It's the least he can do since he views the United States as nothing other than a relief valve for his overpopulated, poorly run country.

I didn't ignore it. I think it's pretty much irrelevant to the conversation. I'd praise them just the same if they were african-american's from the ghetto.

I appreciate the viewpoint, but the sad truth is, if it wasn't for the labor on the backs of illegals, there wouldn't be a single building standing in any of the border states.

I'm not really looking to discuss Immigration policy on this board, so take your politics elsewhere.

Boy, you guys know me all too well. I'm not ignorant of the issues illegal immigration entails, but I think it's well beyond the scope of this site to try and discuss them. What I personally felt was cool was the odds that these kids have overcome, despite being illegal, to try and succeed.

So whatever your views or hatred for these kids, I don't care... It's my site, I think they're cool, so nanner nanner boo boo. How's that for a mature response? Oooo Ooo!  :bigcry: :bigcry: Ahhhhhhh Much better.

...and phxmarauder, take your ranting somewhere else...You wore out your welcome before you even got started....:banned:

Perhaps http://www.marauderbigots.com (http://www.marauderbigots.com/) or perhaps http://www.mexicansgohome.com (http://www.mexicansgohome.com/) would be happy to have you....

Thread closed. I didn't intend my idle net browsing turned philanthropy to turn into a big debate.
