View Full Version : Windshield Wipers - Let's settle this, shall we?

There are several 'main' threads on the way the windshield wipers sit on our windshields. Some are too high, some are too low, and some as is the case of me one's too high and one's too low.
In my case, the one that's too low is ruining some of the plastic peices below the wiper arm due to it hitting it when the wipers 'retract', or are in the off postion.
Now, I've searched these threads and there isn't a conclusive FIX. Some threads say that it's impossible. Some threads say 'goto the dealer', and some threads say simply 'take the wiper arm off, and adjust'. Still others say 'look in the manual'.
The one I'm most frustrated over is the 'Look in manual' crap. It's not in the manual as far as I'm concerned. I've had myself and a friend look through the manual, and in no way does it say how to adjust the wiper arms.
Can someone enlighten me and everyone here on how to 'remove the wiper arms' for adjustment? Please? :bows:

I looked on mine, the arm needs to be pulled away from the windshield. The hood is in the way open or closed, or any way in between. This means you will have to loosten the hood struts to allow the hood to open further.

I had the same problem. Looking at another MM one day, I noticed the passenger side wiper arm was on the drivers side so I took it back to the dealer and they reversed it for me. No more problems.
Take Notice: The Driver side wiper arm should be the longer arm with the slope. The Passenger side arm should be the straight short arm.

There is very little, if any adjustment on these arms. My passenger side was riding too high. The fix was to grasp the arm tightly in both your hands and bend it to the position you need it to be in. Not very scientific, but it works

I went and pulled the arm and to my surprise there is a key on the arm that fits into a slot on the male geared fitting. No adjustment possible. Might need to be adjusted deeper inside the mechanism if at all possible. This is a great system on the assembly line, but sucks if it needs fine tuning. Maybe someone with a manual might have more to share.

My passenger side wiper rode too high on the window and looks out of place. I popped it off and if I remember correctly, the knob it sits on is splined. I just moved it one spline counter clockwise and pushed it back on. Now they are both the same height when parked.

John My driver side arm could not be repositioned that way. First car I've had like that. Didn't look at the passenger side but I expect it would be the same.
