I feel the need for some new music. So, here’s the deal. What are the ten CDs that you couldn’t live without? The rules are simple. For the purposes of this list a CD qualifies if it is sold as a package. That means that box sets and multi-disk sets count. And, it really should be stuff that has stood the test of time, not your latest fave.
Here’s mine, in no particular order:
GP/Grievous Angel - Gram Parsons (“Out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels …”)
Last Waltz (Box Set) – The Band and Guests (This is the newer set that includes many more song than the original.)
Strangers Almanac – Whiskeytown (How can Ryan Adams be so talented and such a jerk?)
40 Licks – Rolling Stones (They haven’t been the best for a while but they are still “The World’s Greatest Rock Band.”)
Self-titled - Buddy and Julie Miller (If you like alt-country/folk-rock at all check this out.)
The Wind - Warren Zevon (His last album and maybe his best ever.)
Dangerous Spirits - Ray Wylie Hubbard (Why Texas is the best place for live music.)
Room to Breathe - Delbert McClinton (Another plus for Texas.)
The Healer - John Lee Hooker (It reminds you of a time when music was dangerous.)
Best of – Parliament (“Make my funk the P Funk …”)
