I want my MM a bit louder and in the past with a few Mustangs I have owned I simply went down to the muffler shop and they cut out (saw-all) the factory mufflers and replaced (welded) in some flowmasters and they have worked great.
Anyone done this or have a opinion?
I have always asked for 2 chamber flowmasters but thinking of 3 chamber for the MM. I was thinking the factory muffler may be a 3 chamber itself?

I installed the Flowmaster 40's a few months back and the KNM air filter. I have noticed a better sound and about 3 or miles per gallon better gas milage.

I've got 50 series flowmasters with delete tips. Sounds deeper and louder than stock, however not as loud as 40's.

How much LOUDER?? Just remove the mufflers and go with straight pipes.

I installed the FlowMaster Super 40's and love them. They outflow two chambers and have no drone whatsoever on the highway. Awaiting my complete Kooks system and wil leave the Super 40's on in place of the Magna Flows.

I got this mod done this past Monday. What a difference in sound. I absolutely love it. I wanted an aggressive sound. I'll post a sound video next week, you'll be able to tell if you like the sound from that. Big sound, modest money. I have not touched any other part of the exhaust. This was a sound mod, not a performance mod.

Thanks guys,
I too am doing this for sound and not performance. I want to hear the rumble when you crank it and all I hear is now is the traditional crown vic type sounds under the hood. When I test drove it I was expecting a little more out of the exhaust.:alone: I almost get depressed when I reach crusing speed for the street I'm on because the rumble goes away LOL
Based on the feedback I think I will inquire about the Flowmaster 40's.

I have the Ravin mufflers on both of my MMs. They have a deep tone. No drone at all like the old Flows did. The Ravins sound agressive when you hit the throttle, but you can only hear a mild increase in sound when you are cruising.
EVERYONE who has heard the Ravins, who appreciates V8 tone, loves the deep tone over the mufflers.
Had the Magnaflows on my '04 MACH 1. Beautiful flow, but the sound actually decreased from the factory level.
Had the older flows on a '98 GT. The drone got very annoying after a couple of months.
If you listen to Mustangs for comparison, keep in mind that the Mustangs have a shorter run of pipe and different cat setups.

The local performance exhaust shop quoted me $197 installed for putting the Flowmaster 40's in.
Sound like a deal?
This shop is known for good work mainly on performance and specialty/collector cars and is a step up from simply going down to the meineke shop.

I paid $199 for the 40's in a good shop in Atlanta. Meinkie was much more expensive, even with my military discount.

Good idea, but don't pull the trigger yet. I should have my video clips up in my gallery on sunday. One will be a clip of my exhaust note, and the other will be a dyno pull. You can judge sound from those if you want. I must say, the 40's with the tips together is quite an aggressive sound, but it's not for everyone. Personally, I love it.

I must be strange. I find the growl of the factory mufflers to be just right for me. It turns heads with out modification. I'll see how it sounds with the DR exhaust I plan on getting sometime this year.
