View Full Version : Marauderville IV in Florida?

I was wondering if the membership would be interested in looking to have Marauderville IV here in Florida. We would be looking at late Mid-May 2006.

This would be a good time of year to come here with reduced prices on hotels, the attractions and getting Orlando Dragway for a day event for us. We talked about arranging/mapping a cruise for us all to Old Town and maybe a scenic ride. I could additionally look into a group hotel rate and discounted attraction tickets for an overall, nice weather vacation along with a super Marauder event.

The other night I spoke with some of the Sunshine State Marauder Members and most agreed that we could sponsor the event. We are lookng at forming a committee to see what kind of deals as well as putting together a great event for MercuryMarauder.net membership. With the long lead time, now is the time to get started with the planning. If someone could generate a poll (SoulRiot) we could start to get a feel if everyone would be interested.

They will find out soon enough! Harder than it looks. That is a good point, lets try to get past MVIII before getting wrapped up in IV. I dont want to start getting things confused. Just a piece of advise, keep it local in the planning untill you are sure you have something worth the effort before going national. Good luck though, I will never try doing something like this again, it has consumed time, countless effort and money as well as a lot of worry about the whole thing falling apart at the seams.

Great idea, run with it. I drove to Texas for MV-I, I can make Florida no sweat.

No brag here, my father retired to FLA back in '76. He passed in '82, but I must have driven the roads to visit him in Winter Park a dozen times or more. I like this, and you have my vote.

Don't worry about the setup workload, you will get the help you ask for.

Old-Town is located in Kissimmee FL., about 20 minutes from Disney World. It use to be just a weekend car show, now its just about every night of the week. VERY NICE.

We'll be working on this in the background, and if this doesn't work out as a MV-IV, we'll make it a South East meet.

Like MV I in Ennis, my car will be there at MV IV without me.

It looks like they are sending me to the other side of the world for a year. Remote assignment, isolated duty.

Dennis Reinhart will be taking care of my MM for yet another year, all of 2006.

Who knows how many of my wild ideas (LOL) will be end up being accomplished by DR.

Just like the last time the car was there. Everything that got dreamt up was at least attempted in good faith by DR. -kjs-

I fully realize the amount of time and money in an event of this stature. I coodinated an event for my training company where we had more than 1000 attendees, so yeah I know about the headaches and time consumption in a national event. But I also know from experience that the sooner we get working on it the better. We do plan on setting up a committee with our group and then look at the big picture. We are just trying to get a feel on the potential interest, nothing more. DR has already scheduled an event in September at Gainsville to which most of us will be going. It will be a good trial run.

This is why I set September 17 for our day at Gainesville, for those who can not make the dream cruise. I thought this would be nice, we have rented Gainesville all day, the driving course is the day before we can do a open house dyno day here on Friday. I will ask Jerry W to come down and give us a hand. Will have a big cook out and race our hearts out Saturday.

Guys and Gals,

I think this is a great idea. I am sure that I speak for all of us up north, "if you need any help planning the event, please do not hesitate to ask". Dave, Mike, Slim, Hack and the rest of us should having a lot of planning experience by the time MV IV gets underway. I think it's great that the different regional clubs put a different location together each year. It's great driving our cars in different parts of our beautiful country!

As a sponsor for this site, I will offer to donate as much as I can to support the MV IV in Florida. It would also be great to hang out with my friends in Florida. And the weather is perfect! I think I am going to pack my swim suit now!

Good Idea!

Would this be a problem with those of us with kids in school? Perhaps the Memorial Day holiday weekend would be good so they wouldnt miss much school??

Just had an idea...
Why not during the winter months when most of us are in a deep freeze. I'd love to come down when its zero degrees here.

Nothing like a nice trip to Florida when it is 23 degrees in Baltimore!

Are the dragstrips open year-round in FLA?

You have lived up North too long. The "snow states" you mention are to your left and right. Look down...You're six hours away from zero to sixty, in our winter months.

DisneyWorld in Winter, leave your ice skates and sweatshirts, home.

Any New info on MVIV in FL? :coolman:We will be working on MV IV after MV III gets wrapped up. We do not want to take away the attention from the upcoming event. I will work on getting a committee formed as well as a list of events. Memorial Day weekend is a good idea, but during any holiday weekend we will not be able to get any substanial discounts. We will check with the membership down the road to see what will work best for most everyone.

A certain percentage of us northerners put our cars away for the winter. Taking them out is a bigger or smaller deal for each of us. Add the fear of salt and snow between here and there and I think that you may lose some northern cars if you schedule a winter meet.

I agree. We are looking at May or June. Still nice weather, better time for discounts on attractions and by May most areas of the northern area of the country should be free and clear of snow.

Just a thought, Florida weather is at is best between March and early May, also between October and November, between June and September be prepare to sweat profusely.

Of course, it is even better in the middle of winter, but I am addressing the concerns of those that don't want to drive thru snow and salt.
