Hi all.
After a 45 min drive with the climate control operating in vent mode I noticed the actual unit felt hot.
Once I got home. got a temp probe and the buttons read about 90+ deg F.
The outside temp was about 68F.
Anybody else notice this after a long run?
Thanks
Jay

The heat is mostly from the illumination lamps inside it. Completely normal.

I concur. Unfortunately LED backlighting is more expensive, so Ford's suppliers do whatever they can to reduce costs like using the old parts with incandescent lighting that runs hot and will eventually burn out.

Just as long as you understand that it's Ford that insists on squeezing every penny out of their suppliers and not the supplier being cheap to line their pockets. :D

Believe me, it's not the supplier (I am one, we've got the '07MY Escape & Focus). But, the OEM will take any possible part price reduction offered by the supplier. I would assume Visteon is the supplier for the HVAC control and they probably told Ford they could sell this 15 year old control module for $0.10 less than a new one, so of course Ford agrees. - Just my hypothetical suggestion on how these things happen.

In vent mode..... the outside air is pre-heated to 60F.
if the air is hotter.....then you get whatever temp that is!
60F on up, etc.
Bummer! Not like the old days when you got whatever
temperature the air was on the outside.
Gotta Love It! :P

Thanks Folks,
I'll check for temp on my next long daylight drive.
'60 degree minimum temp, I guess ford thinks nobody gets really hot in a Marauder.

It is NOT the lamps. In my 2003 E-250, the actual unit gets burning hot (hot enough to cause the plastic decal to bubble up) if you use the heat. This is in broad daylight w/o the lights on.
