You think he parked there by random? He was trying to prove a point - that big cars suck (not really a valid point). But i've visited forums where people are obsessed with these cars. They're dirty drousy hippies that bash anything that excretes once ounce more of polutant than what they deam "safe" :flamer:
Next time you see one, flip it over and prove your point - they're unstable (and that IS a valid point :P).

As much as I think these things are glorified golf carts, they unfortunately have a place in this world. My girlfriend thinks these things are "cute". And honestly, it's probably the perfect car for her. She doesn't need a big car, doesn't drive all that much, and if we're going out for a night on the town, (or to go "hunting") we'll take the MM.
I took a look at the prices and they start @ $16,000 Cdn. She wants to take a look at one on the weekend. I saw some of those threads where people have tipped them over. (I wish people would leave S@#t alone). I've also read that the crash ratings were pretty good, considering the size of the car. We were joking that my Marauder and the Smart car are on the completely opposite ends of the automotive spectrum, and I could always put it in the trunk, if she couldn't find a parking spot. :D
I for one wouldn't consider this car for myself. But for her, it's a possibility. Mind you, she also changes her mind about 600 times in a span of 30 seconds, so I don't know...

I was pretty dissapointed in the owners group when that thread of the tipped Smart was up.
I thought they were a pretty arrogant bunch of arseholes.
Up until I read that - I thought the Smart was intriguing. Now whenever I see one I just think of the owners group complaining that their little forum was getting too much traffic... and how everyone that didn't appreciate the Smart was not as good as they are.

Whew. I'm glad it wasn't someone complaining about my MM parked next to their pristine, "better than new" looking one! (I did park one space away, out of courtesy.)
I saw the "tipped smart" thread, but until I saw that pic next to the MM, I had no idea the things were that small.
How much are those? How long do they wait for them? To each their own. It's just not my cup of tea. I like the room and power of my mm.

You're right, definately not on the highway. There's a couple running around town here now. Apparently in Canada, we tend to buy smaller vehicles (ie Focus, Civic) and it looks like the Smart car is starting to gain some popularity, much like when the Mini first came out.
Like most all of you, it's not my cup of tea either. I'd rather be comfy in my big, black, CAR. :D

Remember the thread on that thing where it got flipped? If you read the other threads in that post on the SMART message boards, the members who had their SMARTs flipped were sustaining approx 6K or 7K worth in damages and the only thing wrong with the cars were scratches on the wheel wells, a busted side mirror, and drained fluids. There have been members on this board who have had entire front ends ripped off and have only spent 3K or 4K having it fixed, does this seem odd to anyone else? SMARTs are around 10K, if memory serves correctly, and it costs 7K to fix a side mirror and scratches???????????? Does this seem to be the complete and total antithesis to the idea of SMART to anybody else? I will never understand these things.

That is the Smart car. Made by Mercedes (I think). Surprised that they are now sold in Canada. Don't think they are sold in the USA yet, but I think I read that they are undergoing safety tests here.
What is that on the other side of the MM? Looks like it could be a Mini which is now made by BMW, but in the UK.
With the cost of fuel in Canada, and going up in the USA, we may all end up driving those things as a "second" or "third" city car.

Yes I was there first. I always park, if possible the farthest away from the store so that I can avoid "door dings". It really pisses me off ( and I mean really) when others open the door on my car.

Saw these in Italy last June. Very popular there. With these anyone can afford a car. Basically it's not a car but a 4 wheeled motorcycle with a minus five star saftey rating.

Not to disagree with you here (because I hate those cars), but in my area they gave the cars to area residents as commuter vehicles (to drive to the train station, etc.), give them free parking at the train station (a $500 year value), free electric to "fuel" their cars, tax breaks, etc. I think that the owners in my area are not really tree huggers but dollar lovers.
Nonetheless, I still refuse to drive a car made out of recycled Rubbermaid garbage cans! :D

I love the logic of electric cars....
When you factor in all the efficiency losses along the way,
It takes tons of coal to be burned in a power plant to end up with a full charge on one of those those 'environmentally friendly' electric cars......
Makes complete sense to me... :depress:

I agree , but we do have an advantage out west , as the vast majority of our power comes from hydro-electric sources .
So , instead of polluting the enviroment by burning coal , we dam all the rivers , change all the fish spawning and pleasure boat channels and create huge man -made lakes that, at low reservoir levels, reveal all the stumps of the trees they had to cut down.Quite attractive.
