What type of filter is used in the JLT cold air intake kit?
I'm using the Marauder airbox + MAF, but I'm using the 04 Police iNterceptor zip tube... would the JLT kit still work? What prevents hot engine air from getting sucked in?

I believe they use a conical K&N filter. They also have a heat shield.
I have a JLT in my car and it sounds very nice and give excellent response after about 40mph and/or WOT. Normal driving feels and sounds stock. :)

Mine is an S&B filter.
S&B part # is R40-09AAFPS
Measurments are
Filter top width 5 1/4 "
Filter height 9" not including the mounting flange.

Yes, there S&B Powerstack filters.
Great filters for sure! They are life time re oilable too.
A big differance between S&B filters and the "other brand" is that S&B filters are cotton pleated filters and the others are Polyester.
When Polyester gets hot it can secreat (sp) the oil. Letting it burn on the MAF wires.
When Cotton gets hot it will hold the oil.
This is why you always hear "Don't over oil your filters"!!
Thanks

Can I just replace the airbox with the powerstack filter and MAF adapter?
Where do I get a heatshield?
Will I need to re-tune the air transfer function?
I'm currently using a stock 03 Marauder MAF and airbox.

I'm currently using a stock 03 Marauder MAF and airbox.Due to the flexabilty of the stock upper tubing, it would flop all around. You would need to make a support of some kind.
There would be no need to tune with a filter swap.

After you install the new filter assembly, just drive it and the computer will eventually adapt to the new airflow.

I've also read somewhere on the forums here that it's been proven that the JLT intake kit gives more horsepower than the exact setup from K&N! WOOWOO

This is true....

Jay:
So the Marauder kit does not include a heat shield?
The 00 Vic is *kind* of similar to the 03 Marauder in terms of the stock airbox mount... How does the kit stay rigid on the Marauder? Or does everyone fabricate their own supports as well?

The complete JLT for the MM is big and stiff, it supports it self. Some have made there own, but it's not really needed.
Thanks

I asked about the air transfer function because the MAF is calibrated with each airbox. When you remove the airbox completely, that skews the air transfer function a great deal.

You do not need a re tune the car will adapt, but if you did tune you would gain even more power.

What about a heat shield?

The air transfer function has a direct effect on AFR, and while the adaptive programming DOES adapt, it only does it to a certain extent and not accurately especially at WOT when it's open loop. I'd imagine a big change in the transfer f(x) after removing the airbox, does anyone have any numbers?
On the dyno you simply disable adaptive and check the AFR curve.
