First Off I cannot give as much thanks as this site and you great people deserve. We love you guys (ok cut it out  )..Well first off the car is still at Dennis's and as far as i know he is still waiting for the motor from fox lake. The guy is behind on motors.I'll tell ya i surely miss it.i mean i dream about driving it only to not wanting to wake up so i can drive it some more.Every now and then i drop Dennis an e-mail or call to see how he is progressing but i dont want to be a pita as i dont want him to rush it either so i try not to bother him.i want it done right as he is not around the corner from me.when the car went to him he did tell me it would be sometime in april so i knew what i was getting into but damn , i didn't know i was going to go through withdraw.it's like kiking the habit , but one i dont wanna kik :D .well one thing good that came out of this is i got a hoopty and have learned to drive the speed limit and curbing my appetite of not eating rice :puke: , heh i think i'm getting old:lol:..as soon as something was happening i was going to post it as well as ya'll should know.Unless Dennis wants to chime in with the 411:banana: .Again Thank you very much..Mark and Peg..Oh anytime you guys wanna know anything or just wanna shoot the poo Call..

I deal with one company for my engine work, and Marks motor is allmost complete, this motor was done by Ron at Fox Lake right now he is on a three month back order if orders were place today. I spoke to Ron last week they are finishing the motor up as we speak. This will be a Cobra block steel crank, Manly rods, Diamond racing pistons ARP fasteners, and head studs cometric head gaskets billet oil pump gears this is a race prepped block the whole rotating assembly is ballanced. The blower was sent to Vortech for a T Trim upgrade.

OHHHHHHH, nice! Hey Mark, .........buddy? Can I go along to Dennis' shop and help bring baby back home?
Sounds like Dennis is doing a super job for you; and I think your choice of sending the car to Florida was a wise one, not to mention the fun we had with the old guy who took your MM away on the roll-back. :D

I know what you mean about withdrawal ... If I am gone on a business trip for a week or so, it just eats me up. :D But after nearly 6 months, I'd be hyperventilating... big time. :( Good luck on the car and the engine transplant. Sounds like you are getting close to the end of the line. Not too much longer now. :D

Well, you know how I drive, Charlie; speed limit +5; but I guess we'd get run over, going that slow on I-95.
Thing is, it's up to Dennis and Mark how they want to break it in, and I don't know if they still follow the old slow break-in method or just let 'er rip. :dunno:

Yea i think Dennis would suggest an easy break in (which i will ask) and if that being the case speed limit +5 may be correct so more than likely a stop off at a hotel may be happining on the way home .but dont really know yet..
Mike from Dennis's shop to BWI took 12 hrs & 15 mins last time with a 45 min stop @ south of the border.it tookus 13 &1/2 hrs to Dennis and 13hrs home including the stop off and alotta kills.

The car is in the garage his motor will be here Monday, Mark has sent me some custom coil covers will add along with the new after market mezirie water pump monoitoring system, with optional buzzer, I will add the new pipes for the induction system, We will take pictures each step of the way, to show how all this will be done, Mark has been very patient, and you can never wait to long for a quality motor. I trust Ron Hobart of Fox Lake, Ron even came to the drag strip to Barry's to meet me and the members there, I just put the exact same short block in a automatic 04 Mach one that another shop had installed super charger kit on, and that shop also tuned the car, and the car had engine problems for what ever reason. So they both will have the upgraded block with steel crank Manly Rods Diamond racing pistons Billet oil pump gears, High volume oil pump, the heads will be completely tore down and inspected, Marks S Trim was been sent to Vortech for a T trim upgrade, we will drop the pulley size and bring the boost up the car will be solid. Mark also asked to have the Pro Guard added, will get the car all detailed before the expectant father arrives to pick his newborn up.

I had the Watch Dog electric pump monitor installed yesterday. The installation, when done right, is very time consuming. The monitor does work as advertised, but when turning on the key you get a 92db tone before the engine starts. This is normal operation if you have the buzzer installed. Some may find this annoying and have this option disconnected.

Thats what I'm talkin about! :D Do you know what went wrong with the first engine? Earlier in this thread we considered giving Marks newborn a "proper" escort home. But there were concerns regarding the brake-in procedure for the new engine. Will this car be ready to rock when delivered? Or will Mark have to treat the car with kid gloves for the first few hundred miles?

Here is the first of the pictures on Marks car, Arthur took the motor and transmission out today, we will put his old engine on a engine stand next to the new short block, we will transfer all the bolt ons to the new block ac ps motor mounts etc. I am having his Valve covers powder coated along with the front cover, I will have the heads checked I will show how these engines are set up and install the heads and timing chains, so this will be a nice tech article on a short block upgrade.

Here is what we have Planned, as you all know the Marauder and automatic Mach 1 have the same engine with a 6 bolt flex plate with cast crank, Marks engine has the Cobra steel 8 bolt crank so this requires a different flex plate, which we already have, I will salvage what we can off Marks old motor, as you all recall Mark lost the motor one day after picking the car up from the dealer after having both head gaskets changed.
For sure # 7 rod let go and probably # 3. I will know after we get the heads off, will inspect the heads and look for damage but regardless, they will go out and be completely tore down and inspected with a complete valve job.
We will use all his old hardware over such as timing chain and guides and tentioners as long as there good, we sent the S. Trim Vortech out for T trim upgrade, we will check the entire cooling system and Mezirie pump, and the fuel pump as well, we will do a side by side engine build up, and show each step of the build up.
Mark has been patient through out this, and the biggest delay has been waiting on the engine, and this to me cannot be avoided. I trust Ron Hobart of Fox Lake, he has a very good reputation through out the country. I just did this exact build for a 04 Mach 1 that a customer brought to me four months ago and they lost the engine after having another company tune and install a Procharger kit in there Automatic Mach 1, and they lost the motor, after tear down we found a broke a rod and piston, again this is no refection of Procharger it could have very well happened with a Vortech kit.
I have no idea what happened, nor do I care to speculate, but after installing Ron's built short block and with only 7 PSI the car made 375 RWHP, NO this is not a monster number the car is totally stock with no bolt on's, and no miles to speak of on the motor, and with only 13 degrees timing, I think its a very good number, if we dropped the pulley down the car would make probably over a 100 more RWHP. So this where were at, I appreciate all the interest in this project and I will keep every one informed of the progress.

I know I will be following this upgrade closely. Great work Dennis. Be sure to take LOTS of pictures if you can remember to. Even if you don't post them all to the forums, save them to your hard drive and then make a CD available with all of them. Be sure to turn the time/date of the picture on so when we go through them we too can put them in order without having to ask questions.
Also, as you go through the build, please try to track the parts and part numbers used / reused and your thoughts on why the part was selected or rejected. Insight is what we're looking for!
Makes me wish I lived close enough so I could come over in the evenings and help wrench on it too!
Cheers!

Dennis, I'm very much interested in your opinion on engine 'Break-in' procedures, as I will be 'breaking-in' my new DOHC (hopefully) soon.
I've posted this link before, but I was wondering if you would like to comment on the suggested 'break-in' method?....

Well, here is the start of the buildup for Marks Car, as you can see below we removed his old engine, installed it on an engine stand. Here is some back ground on Marks car, he brought the car here for an install he drove the car for over seven months both on the street as well as the track the car ran perfect, then for what ever reason, the car overheated badly on two separate occasions, the last time he lost a head gasket, he took the car in and had both head gaskets replaced.
When Mark was working with the dealer they suggested he trade cars to a DTR, with the investment he already had, he stayed in the car, the day after picking the car up he went to the drag strip and the car developed a miss, he took the car back to the dealer and they replaced a plug, the next day he lost the motor on the way home.
Mark bought his kit form me and had the car tuned here eight months prior to the engine blowing up, the damage to his old engine is the worst I have ever seen, I honestly feel car ran extremely lean and hot, four pistons were damaged on one side and two on the other, he also broke two rods. Now this was not a tuning issue, if the tune was off this much he would have blown the car up way before he did, so either the heads were issue or while the car was there he lost the flash on the ECM, I have no idea till I get the new motor in the car, I can try and verify the tune in the EEC, I will also send the Mezirie pump to be checked as well as the Cobra fuel pumps, regardless he will have a monster when he is done, and I know he appreciates all that the club has done for him as well as I do.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118426216-old%20engine%20front%20view.JP G
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118426560-rearengine.jpg
We received Marks new crate motor from Ron at fox lake, we unwrapped it and checked it over, as usual its immaculate.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118426985-cratemotor.jpg
Now on these new Aluminum block they are completely bare so you have to take the dowels out of the rear of the motor for the rear oil seal cap and the centering dowels for the transmission as well as the two dowels for the front timing cover. You can see the eight bolt steel crank here.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118427191-eightblotcranknoseal.jpg
So we installed those dowels and the new rear oil seal and cover you use RTV to seal this to the rear block.

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118427442-rear%20main%20installed.JPG
Once we have the engine on the stand we looked it over and took some shots of the Diamond racing pistons manly rods and ARP rod bolts.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118427968-arp%20rod%20bollts.JPG
Ford Motorsport oil pumps are on Back order so we can not install the oil pump with the billet oil pump gears or timing chain assemblies, but we can bolt The heads on with the new ARP head studs after the heads come back from Dover cylinder head, we are having a good valve job and have them check every thing.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1118428195-passengerhead.jpg
Then I will show step by step how the pump and billet gears are installed along with the timing chain and guides.
