Rather than plug up the "Your Cool Pet Pictures" thread, I thought I'd better start a new one.

We were discussing my [lack of] taste in keyboards, and, well, here ya go!

My favorite keyboard is obviously the old clicky IBM metal cased keyboard with the selectric keys and 12 f-keys across the top. Let's face it, IBM did it right and all the clones are just cheap copies. Really cheap. Really, really cheap...

But, the cheapie that I actually admired was the Gateway 2000 Anykey kbd with the memory built right in for macros. As a programmer, that feature right there made that keyboard a joy to use, even thought it didn't click or feel like my IBMs.

My system consists of a Dell P4, 768MB ram, NVidia and Number 9 video cards, a pair of SGI 1600SW monitors (1600x1024) and XP-Pro.

Anyone else?

John

I'm with you on those old IBM keyboards. They were very nice. I'm currently running:

PowerMac G4, dual 1.42 GHz G4 CPUs, 2 GB DDR 2700 RAM, 240 GB hard drive space, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) video card, Apple 23" HD Cinema Display, M-Audio 7.1 sound card and 5.1 speaker system. Running MacOS 10.4. This is my main system. [ picture ] (http://www.collateral-damage.org/temp/mac.jpg)

Pentium 4 3.4 GHz, Asus P4P800 Deluxe mobo with 800 MHz FSB, 2 GB DDR 3200 (cl2) RAM, 160 GB RAID0 SATA hard drive space, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB) video card, ViewSonic vx910 19" LCD display, Creative Audigy 2zs sound card and 4.1 speaker setup, CH Products USB HOTAS stick, throttle and rudder pedals (for my flight sims). Running Windows XP Pro SP2. This is my gaming rig. [ picture ] (http://www.collateral-damage.org/temp/pc.jpg)

I'm waiting for Apple to release a PowerMac G5 with PCI-E and dual 3GHz CPUs before I upgrade my Mac.

I love the build quality of the old IBM boards, but I prefer the layout of the first generation M$ Natural. I really wish there was a good mix of the two out today.

As for machines, I have about 400 in my datacenter, take your pick :)

My main rig though, is a AMD64 3500+, 2GB PC3200, ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB DDR3, 3x Samsung Spinpoint SATA in RAID5, with two Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB CRT's (will get a nice multi panel display when prices are more reasonable).

When traveling, I also use a Toshiba laptop (Centrino 1.5, 15.4" screen, etc.).

At work at my desk I use a Dell branded keybord just like the IBM one you have. Not bad at all. But the best one at our office is one that has all 24"F" keys. Its linked to a stand alone program computer running something from 1977. I feel like I'm Micheal J Fox everytime I use it.

It was all very believable until I saw the pictures.. Ok, where the hell did you hide all the crap that accumulates on the average computer desk?? (LOL!)

I prettied things up for the photos. Normally it's a mess.

My box at work sucks... Typical HP 2.4, 512MB RAM, balh, blah, blah...

At home, I've got a few kicking around...

Upstairs:

RAM 2 GB RAM
Primary drive 80 GB SATA
Optical drive1 Sony DRU-520a DVDR/RW +/-
Video ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (128MB)
Display old 17" Sony CRT
Audio Creative Audigy sound card
O/S Windows XP Pro SP2

My personal setup:
CPU P4 3.2 GHz
Motherboard Asus P4P800 Deluxe
RAM 2 GB DDR RAM
Primary drive 160 GB SATA
Secondary drive 120 GB SATA
Optical drive1 LG DVDR/RW +/-
Optical drive2 Panasonic DVD
Video ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (128MB)
Display NEC 1712 17" LCD display
Audio Creative SB Live! sound card
O/S Windows XP Pro SP2

Other machines I own:
HP Omnibook 6000 (800mhz laptop)
Old 566 MHz Celery, overclocked to 900 MHz
+ enough parts to build my own Johnny5 (Short Circuit reference)

I have 6 PCs at home and at work I have a Dell Optiplex GX110 (P3 500 MHz, 128MB RAM) running Windows 2000.

The fastest PC at home is an AMD Athlon XP2100+ w/ 1GB RAM and 120GB total HD space. The second fastest would be my Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop with a P3 1.2 GHz CPU and 512MB RAM.

I'm thinking about getting a new updated PC for gaming: AMD Athlon 64 or P4 3.2 GHz or faster w/ a fast video card.

I ain't telling. Definitely running lesser hardware than you guys. One Cheap Guys desktop (black w/blue neon looking "ricer" tubes on the front of the case LOL) and one Toshiba laptop. Also running wireless G networking at home. Now if you wanna compare data centers at work... we can talk...

I've been working off the laptop my school bought for me (and all the other teachers) this past fall.

PIV (full processor, not mobile, centrino, or any other wierdo moniker) 3.1 GHz
It's so damn powerful the new 12V battery lasts all of 2 hours.
512 MB DDR
extra wide display, tho' I don't know the screen width. It'll do better than my 17" monitor at home.
DVD+/- RW drive
about 14 different firewire, USB 1+2.0 ports, and a partridge . . .
Win XP SP2 (isn't everyone?)
40 GB HD - wonder why they didn't upgrade this part but I haven't come close to filling it yet
Just about any software I want on any computer I use since we have 1400 licenses or something like that.
Don't know the sound and video cards, but I don't play CPU games much and the sound works well enough for audio sampling from my CD recording system in my classroom.

They also threw in a 1GB SD card.

Can't complain about FREE.
