Now I've done it.

It's something I started working on last October, two nights a week and several weekends.

Beaten, punched, thrown, clawed, sprayed, shot, trained terrorized and tested. And retested.

Night after night.

But - tonight's it's over! :D Tonight I get sworn in as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Lake County, Illinois!

Woo - Hoo!!

And - on top of that, I won two awards! The "Lamp of Learning" for the highest academic grade in the Reserve Deputy class, and the "Leadership" award, for being voted on by my peers as the class Leader!

Watch out, criminals! Mark's on duty!! :sunshine: :uzi:

Nice job!

So how does reserve deputy sheriff work, do they call you up when they need extra help, or is it a regular thing or what.

and the big question, do you have to supply your own car:burnout: ?:D

Congratulations on your certification Mark. Is this gonna be a part time deal or are you contemplating eventually moving up to full-time status at the S.O. or some other P.D. ???

First, thanks for all the good wishes! They're appreciated.

It's gonna be part-time. Although I practice as a lawyer for Motorola, I feel a strong 'pull' to community service, and this is the best way I've found to do that in Lake County. Motorola is very supportive, and will let me off work if I ever get called out.

No money for the job, and no gun, but we do get the County to provide the OC Spray, vest, baton and all the training. The RD unit basically performs additional service at the direction of the Sheriff, so it's anything from S&R to traffic control to crime scene protection to community service to you-name-it.

And - I can carry my F6A 2m/70cm rig in the cruiser!

The best part would be if they let you put hidden lights on your car, so you could pull over idiots in traffic and ticket them.
