I love this stuff! I remember when 250 mph and mid-5s were considered impossible. FYI -David

HEBRON, Ohio - Tony Schumacher had the fastest run in NHRA history Sunday, traveling 336.15 mph to win the top fuel division at the Pontiac Performance Nationals at National Trail Raceway.

Schumacher won for the third time this year and the 24th time in his career with a time of 4.489 seconds over a quarter-mile, beating Doug Kalitta's 4.513 seconds at 324.90 mph.

"It took us a couple of races to get it back together, but I think we're there," said Schumacher, who went 335.57 in the quarterfinals. "We had some intense rounds today ... It's nice to be able to give this track the title of world's fastest dragstrip."

John Force, Greg Anderson and Ryan Schnitz won their respective divisions in the eighth of 23 events.

Force claimed his third Funny Car victory of the season and 117th of his career with a run of 4.776 seconds and 324.51 mph. He increased his series points lead by edging rival Gary Scelzi in a photo finish.

Scelzi ran 4.764 at 326.79.

Anderson won his second consecutive Pro Stock race of the season and the 33rd of his career by outrunning Kurt Johnson. Anderson ran 6.737 at 204.35, while Johnson finished in 6.787 at 204.20. It was Anderson's fourth consecutive victory at the track.

Billy, it was in 1959, I was a Senior in high school, and a group of genius' from MIT, made national news, claiming it was phisically impossible to break the 7sec. barrier. That very year, Don Garlits, in Swamp Rat, from Gainesville? Fla. proved 'em wrong, and by '64 had broken the 200mph barrier. ;)

I had a NHRA t-shirt that said "speed limit 325". That record was broken and the next year the new shirts said "speed limit 350". I wonder when that one will be broken!

I was thinking this was about F1 driver Michael Schumacher. I guess I don't pay enough attention to NHRA.

WOW!!!!! :awe: 4.489 SECS @ 324.9 MPH!!!!
Consider this: If Schumacher was waiting at the starting line and you got a flying start in a FORD GT at 200 MPH.......

HE WOULD BEAT YOU IN THE 1/4 MILE!!!

And have you 'in the traps' by 125 MPH!!!!

UFB!

Joe .... he beat the guy with the trap speed of 324.9 !!! Schumaker's run was 4.489 at 336.15 mph. So, he'd have you by 136 mph.

Yes, UFB ^^^^^^^ as you said.

Hey, you guys are right on the money with those comments. I never thought about that. my 330' times are usually 4.9 seconds. 330' being only one quarter of a quartermile, and here this guy is with his supercharged nitromethane monster running a faster quartermile ET than my 4.9 second 330' time.

And Joe's example is no joke either. W/out grabing my calculator, a Ford GT supercar traveling 200 MPH (it's factory top speed) as it's crossing the starting line right as the tree lights green, would take about 4.6 or 4.7 seconds to complete the quartermile, and would ofcourse still be beaten by this fantastic 4.4 second run!!!!

The man at work.
He was at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) Annual Convention in DC back in October. The dragster (or a duplicate) was on display as well. NASCAR was represented by Joe Nemechek in the Army car. I got to say, Hi Joe but that's all.... when their appearance time is up .... IT's UP !!!

I was just wondering...

...being a U.S. Army sponsored car, could it be he's using some off-world technology the government gave him from Area 51?

:coolman:

At this rate, you will pass the finish line before you cross the starting line!!

You'll have to ask his crew chief Allan Johnson. :)
