My Father, who is a Sgt. with the Sheriff's Office, met Shaq while he was shopping in a Local Mall. Ofcourse Shaq was drawing alot of attention. So my father went over to help out and to get mall security to help as well. My father ended up having lunch with him at Fridays. While there he had told him that he was a reserve officer with the LA airport police. My father later giving him his number so if he was in the area again he would have a heads up warning and would be perpared. Well a couple of days pass and my father gets a call from someone saying that the're Officer O'Neal, and my father goes, Who?. And he says Officer Shaquille O'Neal, and then my father goes, oh Shaq, hows it going. Wish we still had Shaq's number. My dad's still waiting for him to call again. But he did end up getting a picture with him. Sounded like a good person.

Shaq was a reserve with the LA Port Police (LA Harbor) although he may have transferred later to LAX Police. They are considered "special officers" in the LA civil service. They have peace officer status but are not the same as LAPD and other police/sheriff agencies who earn more and went through a rigorous academy. :bows:
Shaq got in because of his status and connections and not because he graduated from a basic police academy.
California LEO's have some of the toughest standards in the country and it will take more than his size and athletic ability to successfully complete the P.O.S.T. basic academy training. :help:

"I put a lot into it, and when I am done playing, I plan on going undercover and then being the sheriff or chief of police somewhere, either Miami or Orlando, I don't know yet," O'Neal said recently
I'm thinking someone 7-foot+, 300lbs+ and an immediately recognizable face would not make for a good undercover officer...
I for one think it's pretty cool that someone with a little fame and fortune is still interested in helping to make life better for others!:2thumbs:
