Just dropped my daughter's '99 Mustang off for some service this morning. Out front there was a really nice looking black 2005 Mustang GT. :D It was MSRP'd at $26,995; but the dealer had added a sticker increasing the price by $3,000 for "Limited Availability". Anyone else seeing 11% mark-ups on the prices. This is the first one that I have seen on their lot and this dealer is huge.

That's actually not that bad because I've seen markup from $5,000 to $10,000 on them. Out of the six local dealers in my area not one Gt is on the lot.

Dealers have V6's all day long but the GT's are gone as fast as they get them, either buy selling it or another lot begging to get it off their hands.

My Local Dealer has a black V6 with Lambo Style doors and dubs with a 10K markup, and its been there since JANUARY!

Don't worry, soon they'll be just like all the other Mustangs out there.
Heck, Chevy is even offering some great deals on thet SSR thing now.
Once the new wears off things will get back to normal.

Ford says demand is very high for the V8's and they only have about 10,000 on dealer lots. Contrast that to slumping sales for SUV's and trucks and they are cutting production.

By the way, look for huge discounts on most GM products as they try and clear their 05 inventory.

It is BS! Ford cut production of the mazda that is produced on the same assembly line and is making more Mustangs. It is a self imposed shortage to gouge the customer! Last year at this time I was was hell bent on the new GT. Glad I went with the MM!

It is the same where I work. GT's go after they come off of the truck. V6 models stick around a while.

Right now the Mustang is the hottest car in the US. It is hotter and has sold more than Chrysler's hot 300. Here is an article run in the Detroit Free Press. http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/mustang1e_20050601.htm

My local Ford dealer has a 5K add-on sticker too, and I hope folks can stay patient enough to wait them out. I hate crap like that. I've heard that production is behind because sales are high, but not a word spoken on any cut backs.

It is one sharp car, and with a few mild mods (chip, gears, exhaust), mid 12s!

Yup. I read supposedly that the Allocation for GTs is filled for 2005 already. So you either buy one that the dealer has, or you order a 2006.

Hey Bluerauder:

Koons Ford in Falls Church has a couple of black GT Mustangs on the lot and they are both marked up 5K and are selling over 31K. The dealership also has a Ford GT that is roped off with a msrp of 156K with a 100K mark up. This includes a full tank of gas for 256K dollar vehicle. But man, that is one sweet ride. Silver with black stripe down the middle. Sales person who unloads that beauty can take the rest of the year off.

Nice to hear from you Ricka11 !! You left the last CAM meet before the S/C, rubber, and exhaust tone demonstrations !!

What would anyone ever do with a Ford GT in Northern Virginia?? :dunno: Could you imagine sitting in traffic on the beltway waiting for some idjit on a cell phone to smack your rear or side? How about just parking it anywhere in the DC, VA or MD area? For $226-256K including the mark-up, no thanks.

Now I do have mixed feelings on the $3-5K mark-up on the Mustang GT. Part of me says that this is just the workings of the good old supply and demand system. :coolman: But another part of me says that this is just :bs: where the supply has been artificially reduced to drive up demand and prices. :load of crap: The auto companies are learning from the annual "gasoline fraud" perpetuated on the public every spring. :mad2: Shortage my :censor: It's consumer manipulation based on greed. :nono:

I bought a 2005 GT, black, manual, interior upgrade for $500.00 under the $27,500.00 Sticker. Generally, I happened to walk onto the lot with a buddy looking for a '04. My. GT just came off of the truck. THe deal fell through. That was a Friday. I called Monday and the car was still there. Bought it Tuesday. Yes there will be lots of them on the road sooner or later. So what. I did have to trade both of my MM to make the wife happy, but I'll just pick up one in a year or so that has been sitting in someone's garage collecting dust ----- probably for a song. Traded both MMs for a higher price than I paid for them, and, got full credit against the Louisiana tax.

They really are a completely new car. I did not believe that Ford could build a car like this. They proved me wrong. I even like the stock exhaust - 2.5 inch mandrel bent with a growl at start-up and under WOT, but quiet at cruise speed. ALREADY have Lidio lined up to do a tune (Lidio - don't forget about me, man!).

Folks, understood that in a free market economy, the laws of supply and demand will dictate the marketplace.

Also understood that the people I am privileged to work alongside each day put their lives on the line to defend and protect our rights to livelihood and prosperity.

That being said, I'm not convinced that LEOs and military folks have it in their job description to support and defend price gouging, and disproportionate profit taking.

Luckily for us who are eligible to purchase cars through military sales, the program protects us from paying above sticker. It usually cuts us a 5% -10% deal, regardless of the make and model of American car or model of HD Motorcycle.

One of the reasons I bought my MM through military sales was the initial "dealer markup" rumor that floated around in spring 2002 when they first announced the building of MMs.

Enough preaching already, back to the regularly scheduled thread. -kjs-

Give it a couple of months, and the prices will be normal - it's just the first COMPLETELY new Mustang in years, and everyone's gotta have one.

Alternatively, you could just come north of the border. Every dealer in the city seems to have at least one GT on the lot, and I haven't seen a markup, yet... ;)

I wasn't sure if I really liked the new Mustang, 'til I saw this:

How did they get a GT with a $126,000 MSRP ???
I've only seen them with a $156,000 MSRP.
The Dealer invoice is $150,000.

There is a Red GT with White Center Stripes on the show floor of my dealer with a 'DO NOT TOUCH' sign.
It is NOT for sale at all...

They had another GT about 2 months ago and did the same thing.
'Not for Sale' and 'DO NOT TOUCH' sign posted and roped off.
Someone came in and had a few talks with the Dealership Owner.
He dropped $250k cash and had it delivered.
The owner almost didn't sell it because he wanted it for himself.
Now the second one sits on the showroom floor.

There was a third...
It was BLACK with the stripes deleted.

BTW, my Marauder came with a FULL TANK OF FUEL...

Mullinax Ford in Apopka FL (and Mullinax Ford/Mercury in New Smyrna Beach FL) sells them for $1500.00 to $2000.00 Under sticker. Mullinax is a one price dealer. I.E. The price is the price. No dickering.

Friend of mine purchased his GT in Apopka a few months ago, for $1500.00 under sticker.

Doh! Keyboard mishap. The MSRP was 156K on the GT with a 100 grand markup for 256K. Trying to talk my wife into selling the house to get it. Anyway, bad keyboard typing. I need to go back to school.

You are correct kind Sir, the better half had virtually closed the deal on a special order (as opposed to one on the lot) GT back in March and they advised it would not be delivered until November. They also advised that it would be a 2006 model year. I wheeled and dealed with 11 dealerships in Washington and only two would sell a pre ordered GT for MSRP, all the rest were 3 to 5k mark-ups with no exceptions. According to Fords website there ar 70,000 GT's on order, hence the wait. I talked the spousal unit into waiting until later next year for the supercharged Shelby to come out.

Frontier Ford in Anacortes have a USED 2005 GT and they are asking 3k over MSRP!!! Friggin' idiots will probably get it to. As a side note, I saw a new triple black Hemi powered Charger at a car show last weekend and the dealer had a 10k mark-up on that too! What a joke.

My wifes aunt and uncle couldn't find a deal on a GT locally, same deal 3-5k over MSRP. They went to New Mexico to see their new grand daughter and drove home a white GT convertable. I don't know what they paid, but I'm sure it wasn't over MSRP. Donny C, yep, saw my 1st Charger last night at local Chrysler dealer, white, v6, flat out ugly in that cream color. The magazine photos look better than the car did in person.

I wouldn't sweat it too much... hell there was a time when PT Cruisers and New Beetles had dealer markups.

The Mustang GT is hot. And rightly so... there is no competition. And the car is one of the best looking new cars available today.

The markups suck. The most we can do is vote with our dollars and not spend them on marked up cars.

A friend of mine was at the Port of Baltimore loading docks this week and a customer of his had THREE (3) Red with white stripes FORD GTs!!! :bows:

They were being prepped for export to Saudi Arabia...He got to sit in one and start it up.
He said that turning the key to light off that 550HP engine was far more effective than a double dose of Viagra!

They listed for $155,000 with a $100,000 export mark-up for a 'Middle East' List Price of $255,000!!!
That means that the Ford Dealer in Saudi Arabia can start the bidding at $255,000!!!

I'm glad to see that an American company can return the gasoline pricing favor to the Saudis!!

The Ford GT has a big markup! at least 12 G G G's:P I know they do not sell for list price, and no A,D, X,Y,Z plans will be offered.

If you think the market slows down on V-8 Stangs, as early as next year, I think otherwise.
I called three different dealers this week to inquire about availability of the '07 Cobras.
By the by, PM me if you want more info!

The sales Manager said the owner of the dealership went to Florida this past week for a meeting on SVT products. At this point no $$ or official date has been set. Color selection is supposedly not the dealers choice either.
The Ford honchos made an inference, that non SVT dealers may get an opportunity to get '07 Cobras, if the dealers have thier tech's get SVT training, and those dealers that want in now, Will Have to, get the check book out too! $$
Now who do you think are the gougers?:D

Ain't worth it.
For a car costing as much as a brand new Marauder (33-36k) And only giving me a 3tenths advantage on the 1/4 is not worth the extra cash.

The order for my Moms GT was filed last month (we have connections;) ) Car should be here mid to end of July.

Wait till the Shelby hits the market, the GT's will drop and the Shelby will be the "hot ticket". I figure a couple years down the road a GT will be more reasonable in price, especially for a used one.

My two pennies:

The Shelby will surely by a hot ticket for those willing to spend the projected 40 - 45k price tag. The GT and the SHELBY are two completely different markets. Most of the buzz for guys buying a Shelby is that - lets face it - old Carroll won't be around a heck of alot longer, so the new SHELBY is basically an instant classic/collector's item that will sit in the garage.

Its not like people will walk into a dealership and say: "For the difference of 13+k, I may as well get a Shelby!" Not the average person on an average income anyway.

When Ford releases a S.E. MACH, Bullett or Boss that is only 3-5k more for 75 - 100 more horses, now your talking. 27k 300 hp GT + 4-6k for a SC + labor - or - 30-34k for a 390 (any new S.E. will likely have the '03 - '04 Cobra motor) - 400 hp S.E. Mustang that is an integrated turn key design. Remember the Lightening. You couldn't buy a brown paper bag version of the F150 and then build a SVT 150 for the MSRP offered by Ford.

That Shelby sure is fine though.

Again, just my two cents.

The reason Ford isn't making as many of the Mustang GT's as they can sell is our government. They have to maintain their fleet CAFE, and to do that they have to carefully monitor the number of V8's versus V6's and 4 cylinder cars they sell which get a whole lot higher gas mileage. Can't blame the dealers for marking them up when they know Big Brother will only let Ford manufacture a limited amount of hot engines. Thank your local congressman and senator.

If Ford could produce a high performance four banger (SRT-4)That gets good mileage, They woud be able to step up production on V8s

I'm not as interested in how much under sticker I can get a car for, I'm interested in how much over invoice I'm paying. Because even at flat invoice prices the dealership makes money. Whatever over that is extra gouging for minimal work.

There were several components that they were trying to carry over from that platform as well (e.g., the front suspension set-up that would not fit without putting a smaller displacement engine in the bay - Ford actually decided to go with the real mcphearspon set-up and keep the 4.6).

At least the car is not a carry over from the Taurus or Escort. Remember the Falcon, Pinto and Fairmont?

I agree, Dealers are looking to make a killing by asking above sticker price. The tried it on the Marauder, Chev SSR, VW bug, Ford TBird , The new GTO and the list goes on. Good things come to thoes who wait. If you don't have to be the first.,IMO you will not have to pay a premium.

Saw one just like this '05 Mustang GT last night. Gunmetal Silver with Black stripes. However, the stripes were more subtle than the ones on the pic posted here. From some angles, the black stripes seem to blend in. Very nice.

On this one, I am not a big fan of the ground effects, lake pipes, or the huge low mounted fog lights. I prefer the somewhat smaller ones mounted in the grill. Kinda reminds me of the 1970 Mustang that way. :D
