What's your daily commute like?

Read this article, and it made me thing about my own commute...

I have a 14 mile commute, of which more than 13 miles is a three lane, 60mph highway. Leaving at 7:00 am, I'm in the office parking lot in under 40 minutes. Getting back in the car at 6:00pm, I'm pulling in the driveway, around 7:00pm.
Just 'cause the speed limit is 60, doesn't mean I'll actually be able to do that speed :shake:

There's one guy I work with, that drives >1 hour, to get to a train station, for a >1 hour ride, to get to the office. To me, that's nucking futz! As it is, I'm at the max I would want to be, with my commute.

So, what's your commute like? Anyone break the 60minute barrier, one way?

About 25 minutes to get there, and 90 minutes back home.

1 hour in the morning if traffic then longer(up to 3hrs :mad2: ) and the same thing comming home.From Md to Pa then back to Md...And philly is great for creating unessessary traffic during rush hour..

How about this one: It's 6.5 miles from my house to work. Takes about 12 minutes since some is on regular streets, some on the highway. BUT, since I drive a work vehicle home, have a radio and cell phone, and don't punch a time clock, I'm basically at work when I jump in the truck in my driveway!

121.5 miles in one hour and forty minutes (a 5:00 am departure) two and a half to three hours back, but it's only 2 to 3 times a week.

Not really a commute per say, To do my job I drive between 60 and 190 miles a day. I've had 250 mile days but those are very rare.

1. I get up, have a cup of coffee.

2. Read the morning paper.

3. Get in the car (or the bike) and go visit friends.

4. Have lunch.

5. Take a nap.

6. Watch a little TV or perhaps repeat number 3 above.

7. Have supper.

8. Go on computer.

9. Make myself a drink.

10. Before you know it, it's time to go back to bed.

About 70 feet from bed to office desk including the side trip to the coffee maker. :D Although there isn't a posted speed limit, I've been known to reach speeds up-wards of 5 MPH when in a hurry.

PS. Much like my friend ^^above me^^ here, the commute is 365 days a year with no discernible difference between weekdays & weekends or holidays.

Had to get the numbers from Mapquest: total miles is 14.85. Road time: to work 20min, from work 30min. 6 miles of that is on I-95, so that give me some fun on the way to work, hell on the way home.

My commute is 15 miles each way. On a good day, I can make it in about 25 minutes. :D That doesn't happen too often. Normally, it's more like 40 minutes. :rolleyes: Worst was in a snowstorm last winter .... 2 hours !! :mad:

Update: The daily grind took 55 minutes today all because of a little rain. :mad: There's just some folks that oughta stay home when its wet. :rolleyes:

Exactly 1.1 miles of streets, 0.9 miles as the bird flies. I can walk it in 15 minutes; but usually take a taxi for $5 [taxi takes from 3 minutes to 6 minutes]. [Parking is about $25 a day if I chose to actually drive to work]. About a month and a half ago, on a Friday, in the rain, i spent 15 minutes just looking for a taxi - they were all full. So i walked over to State Stret [one block from the office] and looked up at the CTA Bus sign. Seems there is a bus that goes straight to my house. Hmmmmm. I've been working in that part of the Loop for something like 15 year and never took the bus from here to there. So I waited under a construction canopy and within 2 minutes, the bus arrived. I had to pay with money since i dont have a transit card. The ride took about 12 minutes and was quite nice.

So, time permitting, I take the bus home!

When I'm not traveling to other parts of the state, other states or to Central America my commute is about 25 feet from the master bedroom to my office. Speed depends on the amount of java I've comsumed. :D

it's 21 miles from my place to my work. After 9 miles of 45-50 mph roads, I do between 65-80 on the highway. It takes about 30 minutes to work, 40-45 goin' home.

Mine is 29 miles, mostly Washington DC Beltway. I leave at 5:50 and get to work by 6:30. I leave at 3:00 and get home about 4:00 under normal conditions. Beltway wrecks and snow can add a couple of hours each way! The MM is my commuter car.

Tuesday and Thursday, distance from bedroom to study (about 15 feet), varies in time as to whether I start coffee before or after I check emails. Maybe 10 seconds to 5 minutes.:D

Monday, Wednesday and Friday, about 16 minutes to work, 20 minutes home. Lucky I guess, especially in Metro Hotlanta.:rolleyes:

My drive to work is two miles from my driveway. I have a take home unit, so technically I'm at work when I enter the car in the driveway. Return trip is also non-existent; I call off duty from my driveway. (On a good day) Sometimes OT slows that down.

There are days where I wish it were longer cause soon as I'm really enjoying the MM its time to get out :(

Drove 100 miles a day for 25 years on the Long Island Expressway( The longest parking lot in the world). Round trip could take as little as two hours or as much as five. (Forget about a snow storm) Glad I don't have to do that anymore. :)

OLD JOB: 2.5 miles to the office/ 5 minutes MAX....BUT....I am a sales rep so I was on the road most days and often battling traffic in Bluerauder & jonroe's neck of the woods....Northern Virginia.

NEW JOB: 49 miles to the office/ 45 minutes (yes, almost ALL freeway @ 70 mph!)....BUT....I don't have to drive the DC Beltway nor into Northern Virginia anymore!!! :banana:
