I am considering buying a Roomba robotic vacuum to help out with the daily dog hair blizzard. Probably get a refurb or slightly used one off of Ebay. We have faux wood floors throughout the house. Any of you have one? Love it? Hate it?
It will be supplemented by occaisional heavy vacuuming by a thirty year old Electrolux canister vac that will still suck the paint off the walls. (It refuses to croak. )

They're actually pretty good. of course, I don't have pets in the house unless you count the kids. (2). I let it run throughout the entire house (one story). I do have to pick up one area rug with tassels on the end cuz the Roomba gets caught up in it then just gives you some buzzin noise to tell you it's trapped on something. It grabs alot of lint and the wife's long hair that it finds along the way. I clean it about twice in the 2 hours or so that it runs.
Mine has the floor charger and a remote and a "virtual wall" that can keep it from going places you don't want it to go. other than that...go to irobot.com
good luck.

I've got a Kirby that will literally suck the dirt, right out of the bag of a RUNNING Electrolux !!!

My Roomba is named after my last boss. I love watching him sweep my floors :D
I almost bought a Kirby a few years ago, a little out of my price range at the time.

Thanks for the input. When I buy, I will watch it closely for any signs of mental illness or aggression. Can't let my wife see the pictures with the ears or she will want to decorate ours. It reminds me very much of the killer rabbit in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". I have read a bunch of owner reviews online, and they seem to work best on hard floors, tile, berber style and short nap carpets. We changed from a short napped carpet about a year ago to wood floors (made from the faux tree :) ) and then discovered just how much the hairy beast REALLY sheds in a day. I never cease to be amazed that the dog doesn't go bald. The dog lays around most of the time - I now attibute this behavior to being exhausted from growing copious amounts of disposable hair on a daily basis. Will be another payday or two, then I will order a used one off of ebay. Couple hundred is too much to chance on a brand new one that we may not like.

My Roomba is great. It didn't like the fact that it got stuck in my black shag rug but other than that it was great. I have since gotten rid of the rug so life with Roomba is perfect now :) As the manual says, my house is now 'Roomba Friendly'.
I have the first generation one so its not as fancy as the new ones sold now :P
BTW, I have two cats and a dog and the Roomba makes it where I only need to vacuum or sweep once a week or so, instead of almost daily.
