I just got my notice about the extended waranty and want suggestions, advise, etc on purchasing it. So far, I still have a naturally aspirated engine, but do have 4.30 gears, a PHP airbox, u/d pulley, performace dyno tune, stat, plugs, and stainless steel brake lines. In the 2½ years I have had my car I have racked upa whopping 11,800 miles with no real problems. I plan on keeping her for a while and was wondering if I should bite and take the extended warranty?

Any Thoughts?

A PremiumCare policy that has a long term low mileage plan. The lowest plan out there is a 7 year/36k policy. You could go with a 7 year/48k plan. Prices are available at your local dealer or at www.fordvehicles.com/util/external/?url=/asp/redir.asp?site=http://www.esp.ford.com .

I'm not worried about your powertrain, Rick, but there are a lot of other things that can go wrong, and be quite expensive. I had an electrical short at the firewall bulkhead, and an air bag problem, both of which were over 1500 dollar repairs. I would buy the warranty, and remember it's a sales feature if and when you decide to sell. The warranty goes with the VIN, as I understand it.

Definitely get one.

I have to have my EGR module replaced. It cost me $100 (my deductible). Otherwise it would have been several times that.

Given that I paid $1000 for my 6yr/100K plan I figure one more thing goes under warranty and it's paid for.

I have been to Fordwarrantys.com and got 7yr - 60k miles $0 deduc. for $1165, Called Ford Warranty Central.com (Jeremy) and was told $1335 for $0 deduct.

I then TRIED to get my dealer Irwin Motors in Laconia, NH to meet or beat and they said NO WAY could these two places give me that price and he gave me $1765 and said he would call if he got a better price for me - so far - no call! I am wondering what to do. So much pressure saying it has to be Ford ESP and the two I called say they are and the warranties should be the same, but what if my dealer won't honor it - how do you know!

Sorry if I didn't help, but just wanted you to know I've searched and it seems a warranty is the way to go - but WHO do you trust! HELP.

Marsha
PS - my e-mail (direct) is mathus@metrocast.net if anyone can help me also! Thanks

Ford ESP is Ford ESP, no matter who you buy if from. Find the lowest price and buy it from them. Ford ESP is honored at 5200+- Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealers across the US and Canada. (not a commercial, just facts) :)
I recommend the premium care, which covers almost everything.

I got mine from fordwarrantys.com and no problems. Prices are higher now, but I got the price I claimed above. This was when the vehicle only had like 10K miles though.

Jeeze...I thought this topic would be another "no brainer." Guess I thought wrong. Buying an extended warranty seems as complicated as buying the best header/exhaust kit...

Will this shortcoming in decision ever stop?
