Do the math in your head.

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000.
Now add 30. And another 1000.
Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.
What is the total? Scroll to the bottom to find out.

ANSWER:

Studies have shown that 98% of the population ends up with the number 5000. The math above actually adds up to 4100. Don't believe us? Get out the calculator!

It got me. That is why I use a calculator for everything. For some reason I can solve also sorts of tough algebra equasions but I can't do simple math to save my life.

I cheated, I added the figures out loud and it's hard to screw-up when you are adding out loud, if you add in your head you will get 5000. Something about your mind wanting to add zeros that aren't there.

wow, that's remarkable. I was already to start aguing with you guys after I did the math in my head, until I pulled out the calculator, and WHALLA!! "4,100"...I understand wh and how the mind makes that error, but I won't spoil it for others who want to try it. Pretty cool. :)

Took me 4 times before I finally added 10, and not 100, at the end. And I'm an engineer.:alone: Refused to use a calculator. Had to figure it out or else.:mad2:
