View Full Version : Update September Marauder Feast

Dennis Reinhart

I wanted to update the September event we have in the works for the Club. As well as the Crown Vic club. It will be a September Marauder Fest. Since we have invited the Mach 1 club, and Justin Starkey of Velocity Mustangs is asking his Mustang friends to come as well, I guess we could call it MMM Feast.

Right now there is confirmation of a Frank Hawley driving class on the September 16 - Bring Your Own Car. http://www.frankhawley.com/byoc.php (http://www.frankhawley.com/byoc.php)
(We need to hear from you if you are interested.) http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=16155 (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=16155)

So here is what we have planned. Right here in Orange Park there are five different chain hotels handy to the interstate. I am calling Monday to price a group rate.

We are having open house and Dyno day on Friday, September 16. Lunch will be at Noon. We will have raffles as well as a live band. Dyno Pulls will be 50.00. David Posea from SCT will be here as well as Justin Starkey, who came to MVII for the Dyno session I had set up there.

On Saturday, September 17, we have rented Gainesville Raceway from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm. The track then opens to the public till 11:00 pm. I have hired County Caterers to serve "the real thing!" - southern cooking at its finest! Smoked pulled pork, and all the condiments. We will have an SCT booth set up there. I really think this will be great time.

On Sunday we can all meet at the Cracker Barrel for breakfast and be on our way. There are any number of things to do for those that come before the 16th, Saint Augustine is 40 minutes from Orange park, Orlando is two hours away. Jacksonville has a very nice Zoo.

We anticipate an average cost in the 65.00 dollar range per car for the track (including lunch for the driver; lunch for non-drivers will be about $10, including beverage.) Again, we will finalize this within the next few weeks. I would like to go ahead and start an attendance survey so we can get this show on the road. Bunny is helping we with this so I thank her a lot. I am really looking forward to another great gathering of friends.

Will the driving class and the open house be at the same time, or can both be attended?Simultaneously at this point. Class is 8am-4pm. Not sure if the class could be held on Thursday instead.

Bring Your Own Car

In answer to frequent requests, we are now offering the opportunity to bring, drive and learn in your own race car. For some racers, the opportunity to get some seat time and license in their own car is an attractive addition to our regular programs. Participants in this program will benefit from the first class instruction offered in all of Hawley's programs. You'll enjoy enlightening and informative classroom lectures and benefit from video reviews of your runs and, if you drive well, you'll earn your NHRA drivers license...guaranteed!
This program will be personally taught by Frank Hawley. There is simply no better way to learn and license or to improve your skills.

What topics would you like covered? What do you want the most help with? Frank Hawley's goal is for you to leave feeling awesome about what we accomplished. Please post your interests. This course can be customized to our needs.

One Day Seminar: Friday, Sept. 16, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Classroom, On Track Instruction

Cost: $1,000 for Group Instruction; $1,500 for Gainesville Raceway Rental

If 20 people sign up, the cost per driver is $125; if 30 people sign up, the cost per driver is $84.

Or maybe Dennis could have a Thursday/Friday open house! How long would it take to get from the driving school to Dennis' shop? Since school's out at 4 pm, Friday evening at Dennis' shop is also a possibility.

I just spoke with the officials at Gainesville, tickets will 65.00 and will be issued at the gate, for 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday if you want to stay over for public test and tune which starts at 6 PM then the cost will be 15.00 for the car and driver 5.00 for each spectator test and tune ends at 11 PM. Country caterers will serve lunch and this is included for the driver of every car guests will be 10.00 and those tickets will also be issued at the gate, this is one of the best caterer's around, and I feel this is a real good price, we also have some group rate pricing on the local hotels.

Laquinta Inn has a nice pool Continental breakfast high speed INTERNET with a health center pass, 72.00
Country Inn Suites Pool Internet Breakfast Internet 81.00
Comfort Inn all the same 62.00

I see you're in ATL, you can see a few mods by visiting Cracker Barrel on Delk Rd for breakfast, 3rd Saturday every month. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this month, but there are always some nice MMs there with various performance and appearance mods.

Correction: I will be there in August after all.

I am looking at the current poll results. I know where nearly all those folks are from. Florida (the state that which this event is happening in) has atleast 50 members active in the SSM.

There isn't even anywhere near 50 replies to your poll.

THAT'S what I was driving at. ;)Yeah Barry, I knew what you meant, is not easy to get people together. We have some terrific picnics down here and the usual turn out is a little over 20 cars, plus family of course.

Dennis is up in North Florida near Georgia and the bulk of Florida MM. owners are from Central Florida and South Florida. The State is about 500 miles long, some folks don't care to drive a long distance; others just plain don't care about get together's.

Regardless of the numbers, those that show up do have a great time.

I understand this Smokie but there are people driving from Chicago and Indiana even if we had this in South Florida we would have the same issue. So we will just do the best we can Justin has a lot of his friends coming as well as the Mach 1 club

Regardless of the numbers, those that show up do have a great time.EXACTLY. This will be a great time we have a list of great sponsors, bottom line is the camaraderie that we get at this type of event, this is the first of August we still have plenty of time and there are always late comers, a lot of people are on vacation or returning from one, plus school is starting in the next two weeks, and we have MMiii that is taking place this month, no matter we will have a great time.

I resent the whining about Florida SSM members not stepping up to attend this event. The wife and I had already scheduled a weeklong cruise vacation for this fall before this wonderfull DR hosted event was mentioned. Not all of us are in the income bracket to travel at will. I wish to thank Dennis for hosting the event, and I am hoping perhaps he will do it again in the next year or two. It pains me to NOT be able to make this trip.

I have not seen any whining, and there is no excuse for any. I know how tough it is to get here from south Fl I drove 4 hours to the picnic last year and 4 hours back, and as far as next year goes I hope MM4 can be held here. If you haven't done so yet, please select your options above. Head count is important for planning. Jim Spradling is finding out deposit and payment info from the Bring Your Own Car drag class at Frank Hawley, Gainesville.

At this point, the class will be held Friday afternoon at Gainesville, 2-5pm. They will integrate the drag portion of the class for us on Saturday morning while we're at the track anyway! We've suggested they give class members a separate lane for queueing for a few hours in the morning so they can keep an eye on us. $1,000 split by the number of people signing up. If 10 sign up, it's only $100 per person. If even more sign up, it's less all around!! This is a great deal and a rare opportunity to get professional instruction!! We'll still have plenty of time at Dennis' on Friday morning through lunchtime! This class is open to anyone that has been invited to the Marauder Feast, including Mustangs and MarkVIIs. The more, the merrier!!!!

I have invited the Mark 8 site as well, the event is scheduled to start Sept 16 at 9 am, I spoke to Billy, Salesman today he and his family are doing well and he will be attending as well, so I thought if the members want to bring clothing and non perishable items I will ship them for free, to New Orleans. I am going to have Billy to get us a address, has any one heard from Donald Robin, I forgot to ask Billy when I had him on the phone. This will be a nice event my idea of what MM1 was like under one tent great conversation and company and irreplaceable camaraderie, so if you can come, please do. I would like to go ahead and confirm the head count, Justin from Velocity Mustangs will be bringing quite a few Mustangs as well and I am having post some thing similar. for relief help.

Room reserved, relief goodies in the trunk...leaving now as soon as I find my car keys. Thinking I am going to learn so much and have so much fun with a great bunch of enthusiasts that I may stay till the GLOW wears off.

Sorry for the late notification but the logistics just didn't mesh for the Drag School. Let's hold this idea for another time when we can rent the track at the same time. We have some very knowledgeable draggers amongst us, so let's watch and help each other out. We should have quite a few cars between Marauders, Mustangs and a few MarkVIIIs.

See you at the Open House tomorrow and the track on Saturday. This is going to be a blast!!

I'm planning on making it. I have a slight tire issue, that I'll have to double check in the morning (especially since my trailer is out of commision).

I wish I could have gotten off this friday, but I needed to save the time off for when I go up there to install my new toys.

So I'll probably leave Ocala (45 min from Gainesville) around 9:30.

First of all I want to thank every one for coming! We had members come in from as far away as Canada, Indiana, Illinois, Cape Cod, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Oregon. I also would like to thank the members of the Sunshine Marauder group who made the long journey from South Florida! I never felt we would have the turn out that we did, especially because of all that has been going in the wake of Katrina. It has put several of our members in dire straights, Billy and his family, as well as Donald Robbins and his family, I also never counted on 96 degree weather two days in a row in September here in Jacksonville Florida. Normally it would be at least 15 degrees cooler at this time of year!

We had a perfect dyno day and Open House, with a great lunch thanks to Mary and Joel's cooking and all the hard work from Debbie, Terry, Artur, Steve and Sheila. We had great entertainment by the Andy Haney band, and we raffled off lots of goodies. We even had two members buy Vortech Air to Air kits while they were here. We dyno and tuned over 15 cars on Friday. Some of the dyno highlights came from Smokie's Trilogy car which made over 400 RWHP with a stock pulley and a PHP cold air kit and spacer, and it had a very good AF ratio..

After tuning Zack's car, he had the highest RWHP car of the day. His car has a stock block, stock heads with up graded valve springs, stock cams and our upgraded fuel system. The car had a perfect 11.5 AF. His car has Manly rods and CP pistons, the same compression as a stock Marauder. Zack's car made over 500 RWHP. He was making just a little over 14 PSI. We had many N/A cars with simple bolt on's making 260 plus at the tires. We quit around 6:30 PM.

We then met at Whiteys fish camp at about 7:30 PM. The food was awesome but the friendship and camaraderie was priceless and I will remember it all my life. Again it was a bit warm but great conversation and lots of cold drinks made up for it.

Saturday morning we all met up at the shop at 8 AM and headed for Gainesville. By 9:30 we all had pretty much been checked at tech and some of us got some gas and we headed to the track.

Sheila's sister Lisa, here from Maine, had never ran at the track in her life, so between her and Bunny they kept my car going. Lisa ran 14.041 at 96.59 MPH with a RT of .291, Mary had a real low 14 as well. Then Lisa took my 02 GT down the track and ran a 12.6 at a 114.35 MPH with a RT of .012.

By 1:30 we had 30 cars at the event 15 Marauders, 4 of which were Trilogy powered, 3 Vortech cars and the rest were N/A, along with 1 N20 car and 9 V6 Mustangs, who came with Justin of Velocity Mustang of Longwood Florida.. we also had local two fox body Mustangs and one 04 Mach 1.

Just before lunch Billy AKA Sailsmen and Claude AKA Car fixer lined up at the firing line for the duel. Claude has an immaculate toreador Red Trilogy powered Rocket. Billy's car has over fifty-thousand miles on it and over a 130 passes at the track. He recently added our Vortech water to air SC kit. His car makes 440 RWHP. The track temperature was recorded with an infra red heat gun at over 124 degrees. Here is Billy's quote.

I line up next to a beautiful red MM. This is the first MM I have ever lined up against. I get in the zone.

My r/t is .091 to his .144, ahead by .053, yahoo! Then I open up, my 60' is 1.867 to his 2.151, ahead by .284. I feel the S/C winding up, my 330' is 5.385 to his 5.681, ahead by .296. I know he is got to be there but I don't know where. Then the 1/8 is 8.285 to his 8.590 ahead by .305.I know that red beauty is charging on me, my 1,000' is 10.832 to his 11.130, he closed to .298! Fortunately the ¼ comes up and my ET is 12.985 @104.72 to his 13.290 @104.31.

Wow, I crossed first by .3580!

So this was a real good run for Billy and Boy, does he deserves it for all that he and his family have been through with Katrina! I also wanted to say he had a full trunk as well as ¾ tank full of gas. With cooler temperatures Bill's car is a sure low 12 second Marauder.

Zack had the fastest car at the event, running consistant 11.6 ET's at over a 116 MPH in 96 degree weather at 85 % humidity.

The food on Saturday, by Country Caterers, was a big hit, thanks to Debbie's husband, Mike and friends. Again we all had a great time, and we will plan to do this again next year, but we will move to October.

I saw then race between Bill and the DTR Trilogy car you refer to. However, he did not race Carfixer. That was Carfixer's wife, Paula. She's no slouch by any means, but if it was Claude behind the wheel, it would have been much closer. He left the track with a fistfull of 12.9x timeslips.

Thanks again, Dennis-I had a great time!!!
