Seven Peugeot cars spontaneously catch fire in Denmark
From: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20050614/od_afp/denmarkautocompanypeugeot_0506 14153349
Seven Peugeot 307 cars have caught on fire or partially melted for unknown reasons while parked with the engine off, Peugeot Denmark revealed.
"We have found exactly seven cases" of Peugeot 307s that have either caught fire or partially melted, the company said in a statement. All of the cars were two years old.
Noting that "even though the risk is slight", the group urged owners of 307s to "take precautions: do not leave children or pets in the car for an extended period."
Peugeot Denmark specified that the problem had not occurred while the car was being driven.
"Several technical teams are trying to determine the cause and looking for a solution to repair the potential problem in all cars that could be affected," it said.
Peugeot Denmark said that it believed that fewer than one of every 1,000 307s in Denmark was affected.
According to Danish broadsheet Berlingske Tidende, two other similar cases have been reported in Sweden since February.

Dan, that is absolutely the ugliest car I've ever seen. For them to just melt, for no other reason than ugliness, is reason enough.

Hey, don't knock the Peugeot! Although those 3 series Peugeot's may not look great to us, the Peugeot 607 is one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen.
As for their 3 series cars, it is no uglier than our small cars. If you want to see ugly French cars, you have to see the Renault Avontime, or the Renault VelSatis. They are two of the most ugly cars they have over there, with the Renault Megane running close behind. (I always lease a Renault Laguna II - GREAT CAR, and not bad looking).
Also, ugly cars sold here include the Nissan Murano and one of the Lexus SUV's. Also look at the Scion xB. (yes, there are others).
There are lots of Peugeot models out there, and just because some of the smaller ones look ugly to you (and me) does not mean that all of them are ugly.
I mentioned the Renault Avontime above. It is a two-door. Lots of luxury inside. It has something that I have never seen before and it works great.
Remember how two-door cars have those large doors? Remember how when you are parked close to another car, or a wall in your garage, and you can't open the door very wide. (Remember how you avoid parking next to a two-door car because you just know it will ding you when they open their door?)
Well, the Renault Avontime has "Articulated doors" on both sides. What this means is that the doors have a hinge about a third of the way back. (No, you can't see the hinge). When the door opens, the first third or quarter opens at a wide angle, just like a short door, but the remainder folds back to leave plenty of room for people to get in and out. Fantastic idea! You have to see it to believe it, and it works great, and when the doors are closed, you have no idea how they work.
My Renault Laguna II had "Automatic Windshield Wipers" which I never saw before. When it rains, the wipers start up by themselves. In an easy rain, they go slow. As it starts to rain harder, they wipe faster. It also had automatic leveling Headlights. When you load the car up with people, and the rear of the car goes down, the headlights starts to point down, not up into oncoming drivers eyes. You could also move a switch to move the headlights up or down manually.
Don't think that just because something is made in France, that it is no good.
Don't think of Europe in "Black and White" as most people do. It is very modern over there, and in some ways, even more modern than here in the USA or Canada.
If I could afford it, I would lease a Peugeot 607 next time I go, (probably in September) but because I can't afford it, I will settle for a Renault Laguna II.

[QUOTE=ctrcbob]Hey, don't knock ...QUOTE]
What you're saying reminds me of the first time I came face to um, face with a um, well you know. OMG I thought, that's the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and it didn't smell so great either, but, .....oh what heavenly bliss!
Hey! Hey! get your filthy minds out of the gutter :nono: ....I'm talking Buttermilk, here.

I agree. However, it is safe to say that just because it is French it is different. As Click and Clack on PBS say, "The French copy nobody and nobody copies the French."
