Wouldn't it be nice? Well it can be...they have produced and marketed it...

Hey, I have a pair of 3-500Z's in my amp, and a single 8877 in the other one. Both are worth a KW input. :)

Thatr should address the no heat problem some people are having too.

I had a CB tube amplifier/modulator one time and it glowed a pretty red when I would talk on the CB. I had the bright idea right after i got it to spit (yes I said spit) on one of the tubes to watch it sizzle. It didn't sizzle but rather shattered the glass on the tube and tubes for the thing cost over a $100 each.
I used only solid state amps after that :)

So what happens when you spit on a hot circuit board? :D
Open your PC case and give it a shot. Let us know... mkay?

Those tube amps get plenty hot. I don't know the numbers but solid state amps are orders of magnitude more efficient than vacuum tubes. That lack of efficiency is manifested as heat.

  I'm a C B er! <lol>
Used to run 2K, still have the equipment, tube finals and tube drivers from 26.0 mhz to 30 mhz. AM/FM/SSB/USB/LSB 10/11/12 meters. I also ran 06/20/40/60/120 meters and 200-400 mhz AM/FM/LSB/USB/SSB/USB/Phone.
Did a little Satelite too.
Never spit on em!
Had some nice fans ready for when I wanted to play a whole P Floyd CD
with an S5 or better copy for 100-200 miles and all the way across the country on skip or E-layer. That's 45 minutes without a failure at near full
loading on the system.
234 Attitude Capital of Northern Cal.
I get my radio checks from 2000 miles away. How do you like me now?
The equipment will go back online when I retire in the Ozarks.
Radio is still fun.

Wouldn't it just have been better/cheaper/easier to stop spitting on your electronics????

Tube amps sounded cleaner and more natural over the air but solid state was just plain cheaper. You could get 3 times the wattage for less price.
And as hitchhiker hinted at, when you want to annoy everyone within a hundred miles I would hold my mike down and play AC/DC or something the old guys hated for hours at a time basically shutting down the popular old guys channel. Tubes would have long melted being lit up that long.
BTW, the old guys would get in their cars and try finding my house to have some choice words for me. I had a antenna hidden in my tree but the guy down the road had this huge HAM radio antenna. Never knew the guy but I sure told everyone I wasn't scared, just look for the big antenna and I dare you to set foot in my yard. I bet that guy eventually got his butt kicked for doing nothing :D

I don't think I'm going to live down the spitting comment anytime soon
I guess the day I meet you all your not going to let me near your car for fear of me spitting on something to see if it sizzles.
Since that tube episode I tend to only spit when I'm at a ledge looking down, not near electronics...except when I'm near a soldering iron anyway ;)

There is a Motherboard for PCs that uses a Tube Amp for audio.
