I saw a heavily modified SCION (still butt ugly) at a recent autocross event and it handled nicely, but produced some of the slowest lap times there.

Ho-hum... All hail the dyno queen, Supra  Don't get me wrong, It's one of the few cars to come out of Japan that I think looks nice (other than the bigazz wing), but they've never been able to run the 1/4 the way their HP would lead you to believe. Putting down 800rwhp and still only running low 12s, high 11s is not effective use of that power.
What does a 300hp Supra, 500hp Supra, and 800hp Supra have in common? 12 second timeslips
Overrated for the price, IMO. I've seen used ones (haven't been made in several years) go for more than I paid for the MM... Don't kid yourself, the engine may be close to bulletproof, but Toyota didn't put "Lexus quality" into the interior. A buddy has one - (near 500HP on stock internals), but squeaks and rattles worse than my old 1988 Camaro. :nono:
LS1 F-Bodys or the 03-04 Cobra has got it beat in price, and stock-for-stock performance. Maybe looks, depending on who you ask...

I got a ride in a twin turbo supra a couple years ago, putting near 600 to the wheels. That's when I got a real taste of "BOOST" and "LAG" so it had its ups and downs..
"pedal to the met.....HOLY $(@#!"

Ah.. but the same could be said for a stock MM. Stock it doesn't do much more than pick on grocery getters and 4cyls. But the MM has a lot of untapped potential... as does the Supra. ( I just picked the Supra because it can be modified to be so beastly)
Subaru WRX
Mitsubish EVO
Two more cars I wouldn't put into the suck pile. :D

Oh don't get me wrong ! I'm not dashing out to buy a Supra. But the Supra joke can very nearly be applied to a poorly driven 03/04 Cobra. They are traction challenged as well.
I just think they are very impressive cars... on a 6cyl.... to provide that type of performance. As I said above... not worthy of a SUCK label. But maybe I'm just tainted... as you see in my sig... I have a Mitsubishi Starion... not a bad car for its day... tempermental and difficult to get it to run any decent numbers... but one slick looking car....

Yeah.. that is Billy G's film...
Certainly not THE reason I bought an MM... but it certainly was one of the items on the PRO side of my decision matrix!

True enough, it just seems Supra's that live up to their potential are few and far between. Gotta respect a company for putting out a bottom end that lives behind 500+HP. Ford's not so generous :shake:
Damn! That's one clean looking car! Looks like it's been very well kept - is it treated as a sunny day toy? I must admit, I know almost nothing about the Starion... Enlighten me, please...

Thanks for the props. Ah... I'm in Arizona... most days are sunny... so ... ah.. well.. it is a daily driver! :D It needs a paint job. Has lots of some dings and Mitsu used this clear plastic like protector panels behind the wheel wells... and it is cracked and nasty looking.
Starions have been around awhile. I believe the first Starion Turbo was in 1983 (and I have a 1983 hood on mt 87). The early ones were called "Flatsiders" because the sides were just that ... flat. In 86 they made both a flatsider and the "widebody". In 87 - 89 only widebodies. (which is what mine is with the large fender bulges. 2.6L turbo 4cyl 5spd or Auto ( I have a 5spd). For their day they compared favorably with the Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (which I also have). Climate control, power windows, cruise, intermittent wipers, 6 Spkr stereo system, multi adjustable seats, bolsters, lumbar etc. IRS, Disc brakes all around. As for looks, takes a little bit to get used to the "shovel nose" on the car but past that the rest of the lines are very nice looking. The 86-87s came from the factory with 16 x 7 rims 205s in front, 16 x 8 / 225 in back. 88-89 came with 16 x 8/ 225 in front and 16 x 9 /245 in the back. I am running 88 rims and tires. So the foot print on the sneakers on this thing looks HUGE compared to the car. Factory rated HP is not high... 146 HP. But they modify relatively easily up to 225 or so. Then it becomes a challenge but folks push over 300hp out these motors.
They are not nearly as stout as the Supras. So it isn't unusual to see the motors rebuilt very early. My car only has 68k miles on it, but my son originally bought it with 63k and spun a bearing at 65k. Dad got stuck with the car.... and a $500 parts car later... a bunch of gaskets.... I have a nice running car with a high mileage transplanted motor.
This car was also imported for Chrysler under the name Conquest. Attached is a picture of another of my son's attempts with these cars. This is an 89 (where I got the large wheels from) that I cleaning up to sell.
So.. there you have it... probably more than you would ever want to know about them.
