Do any of you folks who have gone to aftermarket audio systems have an '04 OEM unit you would like to sell?? Mine has been problematic for some time and has finally given up....I think?? It will not "lock" on a station but you can listen to one very weak at FULL volume!! Now at FULL volume it occasionally kicks in and blows me out of the car!!! :mad2:
My dealer says they will replace it but it is an involved process and will take as long as a week to complete!! :censor:
Also, is there an aftermarket unit that is "plug-n-play" or do you have to butcher up the wiring to make the steering wheel controls work??
Help!! :(

There was one on eBay a few days ago, I can't find it anymore. Good luck with your search.

For what it will take, it won't cost you nothing more than a little time and patience plus 12/12 coverage (and then some, depending on what's left).

Gee...Sounds like a loose antenna...
Like it's been said, if the fix is covered by warranty, what's a week without a radio? You haven't got one now anyway.

Wellllllllll.......
No replacement radios in the country!!!!! :mad2: :mad2:
Best guess is 2+ weeks for a rebuilt one?? I think they take my "core" and repair it and put it back in the system for warranty replacements?? Maybe one of our Ford reps can find out what actually happens???
The thing works at full volume but fades in and out.....NO STEREO...but if it kicks in for a second it will BLOW ME OUT!!!! :censor:
I pulled the radio and disconnected the antenna and nothing comes through but white noise!!! :o Also checked the plug for the antenna on the back glass.....It's OK to!!
I have a feeling they are having a good bit of trouble with these units?? :depress:
The Service Mgr said he will make a few calls.....Wonder if a GM one will work in our cars??

I know I am late on this post but I too am having problems with the OEM system ('04 Marauder). When tuned to an FM station it just cuts out after a little static. Sounds like a bad connection to the antenna or a cold solder joint on the antenna connector (on the PCB) or maybe a cold solder joint in the peramp section (prior to the volume control) since I am able to adjust the volume of the "static" when it cuts out. Now the FM doesn't work at all and the AM just barely with a lot of background noise - indicative of a bad antenna connection. I have the unit out of the car (easy to do with the right tools) just trying to figure out how to get into the unit. Does anyone know of a way to get a service manual on the OEM radio?

ManinBlack45,
You have a typical situation with many of the OEM radios. I had the exact same issue with mine. The unit has to be replaced with a repaired unit. This is a common problem.
Here is how it worked with me.... Told my dealer about the problem, they ordered a refurbished unit from the original manufacturer, when it arrived, I brought my car in for a swap out. I am sure my radio went to the manufacturer for repair.
There is something wrong with the signal booster inside the radio. You could have a break in the antenna that is part of the rear window, but thaqt won't explain the poor AM reception.
Search the site for insight.
Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback Dragcity! If I could get my hands on a service manual for the radio, I could probably repair it (assuming they don't use proprietary chips). You're probably right - it is definately in the antenna-to-volume control section. Wonder if the dealer has a hookup to check the radio so that I can eliminate the antenna wiring as an issue.

i mean, unless you wanna keep it oem, aren't their really really inexpensive double or even single din radios that can be installed without crazy bells and whistles that are not only easy to install with the harness adaptor, but that are also fairly inexpensive? Not to mention a much better quality than oem?
Just a thought... :)

shawn744 - I would love to have an after-market unit IF it would work with the existing steering wheel controls and connect to the factory harness. Doubt that there is anything like that out there in radio land.

I was wrong - there are systems that will work with existing steering wheel controls - found it on another thread

The FM band in my radio stopped working while AM continues without a problem. The car is out of warranty, but the OEM radio should last more than four years. There seems to be a common problem with the radios. If enough people complain to the National Highway Traffice Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford may be prodded into providing a solution. The NHTSA web page is http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/. Complaint information will be entered into NHTSA's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a defect trend exists.
