After having my car serviced, I was told that the Dealer updated the program on the PCM !

There was no TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) available.

The update is supposed to fix a lag of acceleration during the first few minutes of operation.

I did experience this. We'll see if it was fixed.

EVERYBODY out there with a DR chip, be aware when you take it to the Dealer, so nothing gets overwritten.

According to my dealer, this is what causes plugs to foul easily.
Because I have the chip, no need to update program.
ANOTHER reason to call Dennis.:D
In case anybody needs another reason!
It's nice to have a dealer willing to work on these cars.;)

I had the update a week before the chip install.
I have the ford part number (software upgrage)on a tag under my hood if anyone wants it. The DRC is add on, the dealer upgrades are not supposed to have any impact on the DRC. Per D.R.

So, does this mean that LM is addressing the same "problems" that the D.R. chip is addressing? In other words, if I go in and get my PCM reprogrammed by dealer to address aceleration issues, do I still need a DR chip?

Matt:

Yes, you do still need Dennis's chip...as I understand it, the re-flash corrects a cold stumble, and a plug-fouling issue, with the stock programming. It doesn't change the performance. Dennis's chip completely changes the feel of the car, by reprogramming the timing tables and the shift schedule, making the car accelerate and shift like the factory SHOULD have made it...

^^^ What Todd said ^^^ RF gets teased because we like him but he is also right on with his point of view and answers.

I will be dusting off my Marauder after a long winter here in michigan. Suposed to get to 60 degrees this sunday into next week...and I want to run the car to the dealer to get reprogrammed, from those that have had it done already, did you have them check the plugs to see how fouled they are and clean them if needed? or is that unnecessary?

Cruztaker, can you post the ford part #. My car goes in for a "free" oil change soon, and my dealer is lame. I'd rather call and tell them the #'s, than have 'em thrashing in the dark, LOL!
Thanks in advance.

Best,

Paul:D

The decal added under the hood listing "Authorized Upgrades" has the following nunber: 3U7A-12A650-AMA.

My Dealer didn't know for sure what the "update" was supposed to fix. Therefore they didn't check the plugs. I'll have them do that next time.
I can say that there is no more throttle lag within the first few minutes of operation.

Ihad to have the PCM replaced for a 'no start' condition and that's the PCM that we put in it. There was mention of this 'no start' PCM in a previous thread. #3U7Z-12A650-AMA is the actual Ford # (3U7A is what we call an engineering #)

as far as driveability goes this seems the same as my original one so I'm DEFINITELY gettin' the chip

Jefferson: I just installed the ssinserts models and they look great. Think about them. Ask some of the guys who were at the NY meet what they thought.

The Black Bob Whites are nearly invisible during the day. This is what I was trying to achieve, and coincide with my stealth look project. The tail lamps and lock assy's are next.

This IS Cleveland, wet and cool. I need to park the MM for awhile to remove the lamps and locks, and do all the painting. This requires me to use the only secondary car we have. THIS one has never seen snow/salt in it's 20+ years of existance.

At night, yes, the headlites of other cars lite em' up like a white neon sign. I will take a picture tonite, the flash should lite 'em up good.

If you are into color, B.W. has alot to choose from, and they reflect back white as well. Some members have posted pics.
But I don't believe at nite?

is the pcm upgrade free or will they try to screw you

It's free. Warranty should cover all this.
I had it done during a regular service appoinment.
A good shop will do this automatically, when you take your car in.

Pretty much EVERYTHING is covered under your bumper-to-bumper warranty. I broke a license plate lite assy. with the buffer.....they replaced it. There is a fine line of common sense issues that are not covered in this first 3 years. I extended the warranty on the Lincoln LS to 7/70 for $1200. I will also extend the warranty on my MM to it's max as well. I already rough priced it. $1260 for 6/60. Don't quote me tho, that was a few weeks ago. Being a telephone man, numbers all run together over the years. Anyway, all of you who can afford it, do it. There are several packages available, but the one for bumper-to-bumper cannot be beat. EVERYTHING on my Gran Marquis started to fail 4 months after the 3/36 ran out. Alternator, multi-funtion switch, headlamp assy, tie rod, parking brake, and the list goes on. Once your basic warranty runs out, they do not allow extentions. Extend it BEFORE the end of the 3/36. I can attest, it's worth it!

Cruz--

I was planning to take my Marauder to a custom paint shop to black out the aluminum trim (around the windows), front grill badge, and I was also going to paint my tail lights as well. What paint were you planning to use on your tail lights? Are epoxy paints appropriate for plastics? And what about the aluminum trim? Epoxy paint as well? Anodizing? Powder coat? Also, how are you going to treat the trunk lock? (Too bad someone doesn't make a simple black plastic cap for the trunk lock.) Any tips are much appreciated--thanks in advance.

I have already gone off topic once on this thread. Therefore I have sent you (NBC) a nice pm explaining what I could. The rest of the fellas will have to explain the rest. Nice idea on the cap tho, I removed mine....
