During my recent job hunt, I have found several job openings with the wireless company T-MOBILE within just a few miles of my residience.

These are all titled NETWORK OPS TECH...and believe me, this is right up my alley.

The problem is: They are all locked from applying, saying they are not "externally available"

This hurts.:alone:

I need some inside help....hint hint....:P  ;)

My room mate works for T-Mobile as a sales rep.

In fact, I work for Cingular as a sales rep.

He just started a few months back so I think he would be clueless as to how to help you.

The way it works is the same for both companies, they first post the job within to give those with the company a chance to apply...if no one does then they release it to the outside world. They always want to promote from within rather than hire from the outside and I don't see anyway to get around this policy as that would send some mixed signals to those who have applied for this position.

I have tried a few times to get friends hired and its never worked. There is no one to 'hand' a resume to (and human resources refuses to take them)...its all automated through the website and you do not have the ability to apply there for that job.

More times than not the job does go to external so I'd say keep checking back.

Thanks...it was worth a try.;)

As far as Cingular. I have a ton of inside contacts as I have been apart of the multi-million $$ upgrade they have been doing in Michigan. That's where I have been for the last 16 weeks or so.

Central Office Installer / Repairer.

Military trained in the installation and maintainence of early Stromburg AE/XY swithes, Lucent xESS and Nortel DMSxxx switches

I currently install telecom switching equipment and all associated cabling for the major hardline and wireless companies. Bays, racks, ironwork for enviroment, and DC power. I also perform equipment turnup/down, removal, and cable mining in live traffic enviroments for SBC, AT&T, Verizon, MCI, Cingular, and lately, Comcast.

Installation of Litespans, FLM, Cisco routers, ATM, Sonet, and many other broadband switches. Installation and cabling for DSX-1, DSX-3, and Fiber Optic distribution panels.

My employer manufactures quite a bit of the equipment found in hardline, wireless, and digital cable offices and headends.

Problem is...I have no specific RF training....and that's where the future is.
WIRELESS.

I predict in 30 years or less, if we all don't have FTTP (fiber to the premise), we'll ALL stricly use wireless communications and broadband. Hard wire is going by the wayside.

I am nearly 40 years old, and just need that ONE break, to step in the door, and get the opportunity to learn all aspects of RF and it's workings.
