No respect. Not that I'm Catholic but I'm disappointed someone actually took the time to make that.

Lame.

May I say something about this thread?

Usually I try to be lighthearted about most things, but not this time, if you'll grant the departure from my usual self.

Being of German and Catholic decent gives me no more right to be amused at the joke than those who are none of the above, to be offended by it.

We're fighting a war all over this world, against religious zealots who would gladly murder anyone who posted a joke aimed at their twisted, hateful, and intolerant beliefs.

We got over the anti-u-name-it religion when they hung 'ol Thomas Cressip back in the 1800's, and later when we elected John Kennedy to the presidency of this nation. Now we're in the midst of selecting a judge to the Supreme Court who happens to be Catholic. So what? They were/are competent persons who had the qualifications and support to attain these positions.

There was an outrageous thread a week ago attacking women, and I'll remind one and all that it was a very capable Eileen Collins who commanded and returned our astronauts safely back to earth less than a week ago. The point being, it matters not, what you are, but who you are.

Does the Catholic Church have anything to be ashamed of? All you have to do is take a look at Cardinal Law and the despicable acts of more than a few priests against children; although the blame cannot be placed solely on the Church, but our elected officials and prosecutors who turned a blind eye to the outrage, disserve their share of the blame as well.

I was very unhappy when Mr. Oglethorpe stuck a Crucifix into a bottle of urine, called it art, and the New York Metropolitan Art Museum gave it top billing. Not because it was an outrage against all of Christianity (which it was) but because my tax dollars were used, through the NEA, to support it/him.

I'm not sure the Holy Father would see the humor in making a joke of the Holy Sacrament, but who knows? Actually, I think a priest is granted dispensation to bless a glass of fine German beer and a pretzel to be used in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, if the need should arise.

My point in all of this is that it was a joke, and nothing more, certainly not an attack upon my religion or ethnicity.

Let's let it go at that.

Oh I didn't mean to suggest I felt offended by it, or that it was anti-religious. I can see this to be probably one of the most lighthearted jokes I've come across.

Just not amusing, and I was casting my vote:D

Hey Mike,

Its a joke. Lighten up!
I know Bob, & friends, sorry about the rant, which is really not my style.

My concern wasn't where the thread had been, but where it could have gone.

I sat by and cringed, last week as a couple of our dear friends started digging a terrible hole, which, in the end, got a thread shut down, and made some folks I'm very fond of, rightfully angry.

Although I wasn't party to that one, I was this time, and detected an abyss just over the horizon. :D
