Offered a young man I know a job, went kinda like this:

YG: Rich, dude, need a job.
Me: K' what are you looking for
YG: Man, anything. Just need to get some green. Real bad.
Me: Cool, here's a job..... you can start tomorrow.
YG: Oh,well, I'll let you know.

Makes me wonder.

I KNOW people like that.

Usually the same person that follows up with...

"I can't work Friday or Saturday nights."

Standard rule for hiring, if the kid is there with his mouth hanging open for no reason, don't hire him. It fall under that category of brain dead or "hey you are paying me to be here, not to work".

When I started some 40 years ago ... being the horse would have been a step up.

I remember pumping gas full-time at 3am in -40c weather in Edmonton, AB when I was 18 for $4.25/hr Canadian... That was after the .10/hr raise I was pretty proud of at the time...

Guess I'm lucky so far,my 16yo got her drivers license and the second place she drove to by herself was to get a job!

$6.50 ph part time but she picked the place, applied for one of the listed jobs, listed her hours available around class and practice, and got it.

BTW she dressed like she wanted a job,not like she was dragged behind a car on the way to the interview.

Started washing dishes when I was 16, moved up to bus boy.

I then worked repairing canvas in a sail loft.

I then worked as a deck hand on an offshore tug, dangerous. Guy I was working with didn't duck when the tow cable hooked to the semi-submersible began to whip. Evac him off in a helo. Other things happened that were involving employee theft so I got off. Man that was scarry, they knew I knew and I had to stay on that boat for another week.

The Captain had me doing everything in the world to try to quit, so the co. would not beleive me if I told on them. He had me swabbing the decks while they were awash!

After that I started my own car/boat detail business. Made good money with a couple of people working with me.

Then I marketed a new method of hair addition, held seminars in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, etc.

Then I went back to school.
