This noise is a new one to me, sort of. When I take off under a light throttle or tap the gas pedel I hear a knocking kind of noise from the drivers side of the car around the motor. One of my budies verified this by sitting on both sides of the back seat leaning forward so he could hear it. It kindof sounds like a spun rod bearing (you should be able to hear this this on both sides though) that only last a few seconds but seems to be getting louder.
The only Idea I have so far is that I have an exhaust leak at my EGR tube on the manifold. Why, maybe because the 1/2 intake spacer I have installed that has been on for about 5,000 miles. Or something to that effect. Like I said the sound is only there when I pull out or tap the gas to get the engine to about 2000 RPMs or so. It's easyer to hear when going by a wall large vehicle. Anything else...nope, just sounds like a knock on the driver's side of the engine. Now your turn guys. Thanks. If you have any more questions to help, fire them to me and I'll try to be more helpfull.

Without being there, I would speculate a rod knock also. Taker in for a check up.

I've heard a noise like that before, luckily it turned out to only be loose torque converter nuts. Good luck!

Sounds like a "backfire" of sorts, you know unburnt gas being burnt in the exhaust. Not a lot, just enough to give you the "pop / knock" when you let off the throttle. I've heard the same thing in my car.

I had a noise after I installed my PHP spacer. Little did I know that I didn't have the EGR tube on tight. The noise stopped after putting a few black tip ties on the tube.
Would a leak in the EGR cause detonation? ..cause that's what it sounded like.

Right? I'll look into the converter bolts and the EGR tube again but unless it has a kink in it at the fitting, it isn't moving. Oh, one more thing...I've gottin this noise shortly after installing my new intake tube, do you think it might be a difference in the way the air is going through it that I might be hearing?

T-dan: PM me or call, we need to get you set up with someone in the area that can troubleshoot and suggest a fix. You have plenty of lead time before you return home to get this issue resolved. Regards, -kjs-

Well, when I got off work I did find one thing wrong. It seems I managed to twist my X-pipe flanges.. = one bad exhaust leak when you kinda get on it at low RPMs under load. I can try to fix it myself with some new gaskets in the AM or just wait till Monday and let the exhaust shop that did the install figure it out. I hope this is it only because the way I'm set up it makes perfect sense. I'll crap if it's a bearing thats spun out somehow. These are 1/4" think flanges so this is just great. I'll let you know what I find after I get these fixed.

I'm guessing exhaust leak.
I hope I am right. Good luck.

Here's the update. Seems it was both gaskets on my x-pipe flanges were blown out making the knocking noise when under low rpms/high loads. It sounds much better now. Back to having fun now.:burnout:
