Has anyone else been to edmunds.com lately? They are stating that the depreciation on the Marauder will be $11,943 after one year with 15,000 miles. That's greater depreciation than my 01 300M, which I sold because I thought the MM would hold value better.

How did they come up with that number????

If that depreciation number is correct, anyone planning to buy one (and any L/M dealership with some to sell) better concentrate on negotiating purchase prices well under list if we expect to see the rest of the production run on the streets any time soon. I don't think any of us assumed the MM would hold resale value like an M-B or a Beemer, but I doubt any of us would have predicted a bite like that!

Factored into my purchase plans was to put at least 100K miles on this beauty and reasle value at the end was never a consideration, but I'd guess many of you did assume the MM would hold resale better than the number mensrea quotes.

It would be nice if the Marauder held it's resale value like the Impala SS, but that is a lot to ask for since the Impala SS has set records for
a domestic sedan.

My local Chevy dealer offered me only 24,500 for a trade on a Vette.
I wonder what Mercury will give on trade for a 2004 model?

I hope they do keep the value. But remember a car is the worst investment one can make. Buy it and drive it like you stole it. What happens in 100K is to far out to worry about. It is just a bonus that my 100k Impala SS is still worth 15k. But if it gets totaled the Vin on 94's and 95's do not indicate 'SS' I have to make special arangements with State Farm $$$

With each up there is a down

JT03--- that's what they offered you for your 03 MM?

Bishop... although I agree that one shouldn't buy a car expecting to make money... I don't think one should purchase a car knowing that they will tank...

Here are some examples of other vehicles (no not all four doors) in the same price range, their target purchase price, estimated one-year depreciation and five-year expected value. I think you will see that the MM is expected to tank. I do understand that these are estimates and the real proof will be in a year, but....

Target price / 1st year depreciation / estimated price after 5/75K
MM
33,400/11,943/11,177

SVT lightning
32,815/9,440/14881

SVT COBRA HT
34,076/6,785/16,706

BMW 330i
33,750/8,470/17,681

Not a huge difference, but much more than I expected!

I dont think in 5 years that a MM is going to be so cheap.

I'm not so convinced that the MM is going to see more than one additional model year. If the program stops our cars will keep alot of cachet.

Either way, I love mine and probably wont get rid of it unless I wreck it.

I love mine as well, but was a little shocked at edmunds... remember people use that site as a reference, as do dealers....

Remember something. This is a completely new carline, from a depreciation standpoint, so Edmunds has nothing but the CV / MGM, to base their depreciation rates on.

IMO it will be closer to the Impala in depreciation than the MGM. Maybe not record breaking, but not bad either.

It would seem to me that it is to early for anyone to tell the depreciation value, after all the car has only been on the road for less than 4 months. If I recall correctly, even Ford Motor Credit figures the residual value on a lease and only 1 point higher than a Grand Marquis. Give it time.

The contract and registration on the Marauder indicates that it is a Gran Marque. That's how my insurer has it listed. Think it would be a problem in the event of an insurable loss?

I have State Farm and mine shows up as a Marauder... I think I would defintely look into it. There is a cost difference as we ak know.

A vehicles insurance value is based on the model AND trim line. For the Impala, the trim line is Impala, and that is what the insurance value is based on, just like a base Accord is worth less than an loaded Accord LX.

The same is true for the Marauder. It may say GM, but the trimline is still Marauder.

Intrest rates are going to 3.9 on the MM.
