View Full Version : The newest addition to my garage

It is a relatively virgin 1993 LX with just under 26,000 miles, BBK headers, 3.73 gear, a Comp clutch, and an Alpine sound system.

The only problem is I tend to modify everything I get!

I plan on driving this while Jeff (Shankin) is working on my 1993 Yellow Feature Car.

These pictures were from the prior owner. I will get mine together as soon as I get the car tagged, detailed and get the dirt off from the 300 mile trip.

What do y'all think?

Dammmit Marty, Are you trying to collect as many Mustangs as I have? I hate to break it to you, but if you run the plates, your new mustang comes back stolen out of cleveland! We are almost tied in Mustangs for the moment, but I am expecting a new arrival of my own soon! I will be preparing the Garage, I mean nursury for my new bundle of Mustang Joy! I will let you know, and I hope you will be my new baby's Godfather. Everyone here at home is excited....

Dave:

This car is definitely not stolen. I was pretty careful with the title, etc.

And, yes, it is definitely not easy keeping up with the Popoviches, try as I might! I am envious of your new Mustang, but will be trumping you when I get my '07! I suspect that you and I will be in a rivalry for years to come! Isn't that what friends are for? As for being the Godfather, you know I will accept the role but will require the "baby" to stay with me for a while!!! :D

Late last night I took the car out (it is currently tag-less) and painted the street in front of my house. Oh boy, did I get in trouble! :D

Awesome Marty! You're living the dream. That's one of my favorite "modern" Mustang body styles.

In one of the interior pics, it looks like it has a big bulky air bag steering wheel. I thought '94 was the first year for air bags in the 'Stangs.

I stand corrected.

Enjoy!

1990 was the first year for an airbag in a Mustang (drivers side only).

That car is an unbelievable find with such low mileage. My first car was a black 1991 5.0 hatch equipped identically to this one. I still miss that car and regret the day I sold it for a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. :shake:

I think you got yourself another great Mustang there Marty! I really need one from that era..... Its great to find another Mustang Lover that collects them like I do. Are you still on the list for a 2007? I am, but caught wind from someone special that there is a Special Edition Mustang coming out in 2008 that will be very highly sought after, low production, Blower, and automatic...my fav. Enjoy the new ride....

Nope, that is far from dead. We made some great passes with it, have shown it, cruised it, and just generally enjoyed it and the friends that I have made with this unique project. I am still very much in love with the car. :lovies:

Right now we are making some changes that, to my knowledge, no one here has tried and that is what this car has been about -- breaking new ground and stirring emotions, which I think we have done.

On the other hand, I have always loved Mustangs and they are a whole lot cheaper to buy, work on, and drive. So, while I love the fact that I have a one of a kind Marauder, I also like knowing that I can tool around in my Mustangs too!

I REALLY like that car, good clean Fox chassis cars are getting hard to find! Even some of the nice looking ones with higher mileage are beat up, look underneath and you just find cracked floorpans and twisted torque boxes.

I really like that, personally I like LX's better than GT's, even though I ended up with a GT...the LX's have a cleaner look, and I live the exhaust pipes on them.

I hope your's goes as long as my GT. :)

Here's my 1990 GT...

http://www.neuralimpulse.com/cars/pics/IM001677.JPG

This pic os over a year old, I've cleaned it up a bit, added fog lights back in,but not too much else. Currently has 197,000 miles and what I think is the original clutch. (Previous owner bought it with 100k and never did the clutch, nor did the 1st owner mention doing it.)

I've got some long term plans for it but right now just using it to tool around in. Only has flowmasters at the moment, and silencer delete...and I had subframes connectors put on.

Other than that I've just done the basic maintenence and build a custom rear floor area since the carpet was shot.

The car isn't as nice looking as yours but is very solid and rust free. Scored it for $1700 too!

Runs great, only had to replace the TFI and now its running a tad warm so I'm going to flush the coolant, clean the radiator and give her a new thermostat. Probably has another 197,000 left in the engine!

Now its running a tad warm so I'm going to flush the coolant, clean the radiator and give her a new thermostat.

Check the fan blades and look for small radiator leaks. These cars are prone to that.

By the way, I like your GT. I like the ground effects packages on those cars but couldn't find a clean enough one (I am a bargain hunter!! :D). I looked at a red '90 'Vert about two weeks ago but it was beat.

I found a super beautiful Red 1993 Cobra which I would die for but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend. If I had some lose change around, I would buy that car in a minute!

Another nice fox body Marty

I've churned through 3 fox body mustangs over the course of 16 years and had a ball with each of them.

My first experiment was an 86 Mustang GT 5.0 bought used in 1988. Things were just getting rollin' for the venerable "5-oh" back then, so I limited my mods to simple bolt-ons like exhaust work, higher lift roller rockers, and a rear gear swap to 3.55s.

In 1991, I traded the 86 in for a brand new 91 Mustang 5.0 LX Notchback. The LX Notchback was 200lbs lighter and had a much cleaner look tha the other models. Without a single modification to the cars sheetmetal, and an eye for the sleeper look, the 91 went through 9 years of build up. In the end, it had a 14 psi centrifugal supercharger, ported TFS aluminum racing heads, ported upper intake, plus all the supporting fuel system, cooling, drivetrain, chassis, and suspension mods need to support the 600+ horsepower the car was making. Tune came from Lidio.

During the time I was building the car, I began drag racing (legally) and often attended many of the local Fun Ford Weekend and 5.0 events. My best 1/4 time from this beast was a 10.28 @ 126mph. The neatest part about this was being able to pop in a CD and crank up the A/C on the way home from the track...it was a true street car. Hehe...I was half way home before most guys had their poor idling, overheating monsters on the trailer:D

Here's some pics of the '91:
http://www.liquidninjas.com/mdzcpa/ForumPics/mugshots/91mustang/car2.JPG

http://www.liquidninjas.com/mdzcpa/ForumPics/mugshots/91mustang/car6.JPG

http://www.liquidninjas.com/mdzcpa/ForumPics/mugshots/91mustang/car1.JPG

Well...things change. So due the the needs of a growing family, I sold the 91 on a whim during the 2002 Woodward Dream Cruise!!! . Someone came up and offered me cash (literally, in $100 bills ) during the show, and I took the offer. I regret that now:(

After almost a year without a mustang, I couldn't resist the urge and I bought an 86 Mustang GT. Ahhh...back to my roots. Although it's not the absolute beast the 91 was, it's still heavily modified and aweful fast. The motor was rebuilt by Lidio and had a rebuilt shortblock, hand ported GT-40X aluminum racing heads, FMS E303 cam, hand ported GT-40 upper intake, custom fuel system, full length headers and 2 1/2 dual exhaust, a tied frame, Auburn rear end with 3.73 gears, plus a bunch of other supporting goodies. The body lines are clean and mean. She ran high 11s in the quarter mile all day long and is totally streetable.

85/86 GT 5.0!!!

The BEST looking Fox Mustang made!

I still have mine that I, errrr... my Dad bought back in April of '85.
It took me four years to pay Dad back the $11,825.00 for my pride and joy!

I was going to wait for the '86 GT to come out, then I heard that they would be 'fuelies' so I talked my Dad into helping me get "The last of the 4 barrel Mustangs"....
Man do I love the roar that Holley makes when the secondaries open!!

My '85 GT is Black w/charcoal grey interior and those great bucket seats with red piping.
I special ordered mine with power windows but without power locks (stupid location for the power lock button, UNDER the armrest) and without cruise control (I didn't like the cruise control steering wheel)

It is sitting in my garage waiting for a 392 Stroker Windsor to drop between it's fenders. :D

93 SVT Cobra! 235HP. Man does that sound lame, 235HP!
I was thrilled with my 'awesome' 210 HP '85 GT. With the 3.55 gears I could destroy 5.0 IROC-Zs and walk all those cocky 5.7 IROC-Zs.
This was back when the 5.0 was just starting to make a reputation and get noticed, but there were few aftermarket parts back then.

Thanks for the tips there! The radiator does appear fine, it's got a "Valeo" sticker which tells me its an aftermarket. I know Valeo makes Ford aftermarket OEM stuff, so I'm guessing it's been replaced. (Could be wrong though!)

The fan has some stress cracks on the blades, like usual, I plan on replacing it with the fan clutch to be on the safe side.

Right now though I just wanna get past my emissions test...the guys said it was "overheating on the test bench" (dyno). Odd, while running sorta warm it has never overheated on me, even in 100 degree weather in traffic. Makes me wonder what they were doing to it, probably doing donuts before testing it, LOL.

So I'm gonna flush the coolant, cleaning out the radiator in the process, clean the radiator fins (inspecting them at this time too), and putting in a new thermostat plus some Water Wetter. That should do the trick and get me passed.

Right now my plates are overdue so I can't legally drive it thanks to darn emissions. I'm assuming it'll pass once they actually run the test. :) (Still has the cats!) Seriously, it's in very good running condition so I don't see why not.

By the way, I love that Cobra. In time I want to redo my 'stang, got ton's of plans for it but need a supercharger on the Marauder first. When I do it though, I want ATLEAST the cobra bumper, I want to keep my side skirts but lose some of the skirt in the back so you can see the pipes, I'm not a huge fan of the hidden turndowns on the GT.

I think a Cobra bumper and full exhaust headers back would be quite nice.

So...anymore Fox pics???

I'm gonna get some more of mine, once I sell off my snow tires from my Grand Am (that I traded in on the Marauder) I think I'm going to go for a new set of headlights (probably the diamond clears) and LX tails for the rear (saving my GT tails incase I want the cheesegraters back one day...).

That and a good buffing of the paint and my Fox 'Stang will look pretty decent.
