One of the down sides of having a kill switch that disables the fuel pump module is that when you turn the key to start the car and forget that you enabled the kill switch the car will start and run for a very short while -- and then throw the "check engine" light on about the same time the car starts to stutter and die. Ask me how I know. Ask me four times.

So, since I seem to be memory-challenged on this particular procedure it's time to buy some type of OBDII scanner to read and reset the "check engine" light. Any suggestions on what to get? What to stay away from? Right now I'm leaning toward the ScanGauge that SergntMac posted a link to a few days ago. Thanks for any insight.

Anyone of your local FLAPS will have a scan tool that can also erase the codes. I bought one about 3 or 4 years ago and paid around $150.00, they are much cheaper now.

I bought a scan tool for about $100.00 two years ago. It is a necessary tool now-a-days

Muy bein! Me gusto mucho! :P

$180 bucks ia bit steep for a tool that only scans trouble codes. Double that and you can get an XCal2 w/ datalogging.

I like that ScanGauge too, Mac told me about a few months back. If I don't get a laptop (required for datalogging) by Xmas, I may buy that.

Entiendo que usted no puede hablar a Sr. español BillyGman. Si usted siguiera el acoplamiento que proporcioné entonces usted habría encontrado este artículo. Esta unidad vende para 30 dólares

Inexpensive, versatile, easy to use, no power supply needed, displays four EEC parameters at a time (I think we have 17 total), shows and clears codes, also a trip minder. I have mine plugged in 24/7, it's only distractor, IMHO, is it's bulky housing. I peeked inside, it doesn't have to be this 2X3" box, but that's a small misgiving for what it does.

www.scangauge.com (http://www.scangauge.com) This looks cool to me, but where do you mount it permanently Mac? Doesn't the wire to the port (ODB port?) get in your way?

Sorry if you already posted pics or something. I did a search and saw you talking to Dennis about it, but didn't see anything further.

Also, I guess I'm missing something, but I thought the 9100 I have displays and can clear DTC codes. (?)

Thanks!

Just ordered one. This thing has some pretty cool features for the price and size. Will post my findings when it comes and have used it for a period of time.

Thanks Mac, for posting the link. and valleyman for this post.

Norm2 things:

#1. I've heard that the newest handheld tuners no longer have the capability to read codes.

#2. Some of us have the chips rather than the handheld tuners, therefore it's us who can sometimes use the scan tools.
