Do you want to burn it as a DVD or a VCD? Depending on your DVD player, you can make a VCD that can be read, saving you the problem of having to get a DVD burner on your computer (unless you already have one.)

If you go with making a VCD, I'd try using Nero for burning software. Nero is cheap/free depending on where you look, and supports burning DVDs as well as VCDs in case you have a DVD burner. It should be pretty simple; there are options to choose what type of thing you're going to put on the CD or DVD.

There might be limits to the size of the AVI you can convert to a VCD, because Nero will put other file to make the VCD more recognizeable by a DVD player. That's why when you see some pirated-movies on VCD, it takes two discs. Good luck!
