The previous owner had 4 infinity speakers installed along with an XM Roady2. The front speaker ocasionally sound garbled like they are blown. A quick crank of the volume all the way up and back down ussually fixes it but it's only temporary. Is the radio's front channel on its way out or is there a known issue with infinity speakers in the front doors. They have the tweeters that spin like a radar dish and silver/white mylar woofer. It's really getting annoying.

I would have to say from your symptoms that either your speakers are loose in their mounting or they are blown. When a speaker fails it’s usually because too much distortion was run thru them at too high a power, when this happens the voice coil heats up, there is a tight tolerance between the voice coil and the magnet once the voice coil heats up too much from distortion or power it will deform and jam in between the magnet that usually causes a “buzzing sound” in extreme cases it will short out and then burn up in which case you get no sound. Either condition can also blow your amplifier final outputs. just my :twocents:

Not to worry, if a quick crank of the volume temporarily fixes it, you have a loose wire on the speaker terminal or a poor speaker connection from the amp or headunit.
Cranking the volume sends more current across the loose connection, that's why it works.

or is there a known issue with infinity speakers in the front doors.I have Infinitys in the Blackbird and have had no trouble at all...they sound great. I have to agree with rookie1...it's a loose wire.

Well I finally solved this mystery. After re-soldering the drivers door conections I thought that I had solved it. I put the panel back on and the distorted sound came back. I grabbed my inspection mirror and flashlight and found that the gray wooly insulation on the door panel was pressing on the cone of the woofer. I removed the insulation in the speaker area and re-inspectected the area and verified nothing was touching and the speaker sounds clear and clean. Finaly!!!  :D
