View Full Version : Coil Spring Question

I have a 95 Grand Marquis. There is nothing special about it, but I would like there to be. At least for me! Anyway, my car is having squeaking and noises that certainly sound like the springs are having difficulties and sometimes even sound like they are catching on something and then popping off. The car only has 31,000 miles and was owned by an 80 year old lady; (seriously), but it is still a 95 and the springs have still been holding the weight for 10 years. I saw an add in the classifieds for some springs from a 96 Mustang Cobra for real cheap. Is there any way that those springs would fit my car and would they add any performance enhancement at all, or is there too big of a difference between the weight of my car and the mustang? On an unrelated issue, can anyone tell me what backspacing on wheels I would need in order to get new wheels on the car and have them come out about an inch or so for a better look?

Thanks,

David

David,
As far as the noise, unless the spring is broken, it is probably not the noise. The most common issue with noise is the lower control arm bushings and dry steering stops. Have it checked out by a competent shop before you start replacing parts that may not be bad.

Mustang spings in a GM?, doubt it very much. Big weight difference.
