View Full Version : Poor man's Nittos

I'm in bad need of traction, and have no 'mod money' right now.
I will eventually get, at a minimum, a set of P295-45-ZR18 Nitto 555s on widened rims. (When I S/C I know that I will need the P305 555Rs)
:hmmm:
I have a set of Hoosier Dirt Boss L60-15 Cheater Slicks that I used to race with on my 85 Mustang GT.
They hooked pretty good on my 5 speed Stang..... enough to detonate my OEM T-5 on the first 'sticky tire' drag run! :o
I know that the Mustang 15 x 7 '10 hole' rims that they are mounted on now won't work (4 lug & wrong offset), but will a 15" rim even clear our rear brakes?
I've searched some old threads and it looks like 15" CV rims MIGHT work.
Can anybody confirm this, and if 'YES' what year CVs should I look at in the junk yards?? Are the CV rims 15 x 7"?

If I can get 15" rims to work I will have the following:

1. A good set of sticky cheater slicks for very little $$$

2. An new effective rear gear ratio of 4:10  :banana2: (28.61" OEM tire x 3.55/ 24.75" Cheater slick = 4:10)
3. No concern about "BillyGmanning" the crap out of these tires! :burn:

4. The ability to REALLY load the T/C and come out of the hole HARD!

5. A sub 2 second 60 foot time! :dunno:

6. A N/A Marauder DEEP into the low 13s!
7. A Marauder that looks like a piece of IROC-Z Camaro crap at the drags with my "PO BOY" slicks!

I believe 16+" rims are required in all 2003 up GM, CV, and marauders to clear the brakes.

Only the front brakes require 16 inch wheels 15 inch will work on the rear only.
The 15 inch cv wheels are 6.5 inches wide.

That was my thoughts, I also wanted confirmation. Now to find some 15x10 rims with the correct offset, 5 spoke alloy would be great!

Any luck finding 10"X15" wheels?

Two members I have seen with slicks, are Cruzetaker and FiveO.

All of them I've seen have the wrong offset and would cause the tires to stick out too far. Still looking.

Will you post, if you find somthing?

Absolutely. I expect we'll be able to find something soon since the '05 'stang uses a common size & backspacing to the MM.

I believe 16+" rims are required in all 2003 up GM, CV, and marauders to clear the brakes.16" are required For the fronts ONLY on all Panther cars after 1998.
All Rear brakes, at least 92-02 are the same. However you will probably need to get 03+ rims to have the correct offset. Cruztaker has 98-02 CV Steelies on his slicks and they mount up, but IIRC they stick out a little bit.

I used Wheels with a mustang offset for my slicks, 26" MT ET Drags, shorter height gives me a higher effective ratio....Notice how much shorter the rear tire is vs the front. Dont forget to switch off TC if you have it!

Please elaborate....What size..15"...16"?
What width? 6"...7"...8"?
What offset?

Thanks...I'm still looking for cheap rims to mount my 15" Hoosier cheater slicks.

I use the M/T ET Streets, 28 x 11.50 16 mounted on 16x8 wheels.
The 98 marquis steelies have the same offset.
Pic below.

BTW:
I ran 13.2 on OEM wheels with bald Pirellis. Street tires. Bald. Very Bald.
Did I mention bald?:P
