Forgive me if this is old news, but it's Friday afternoon so I thought I'd goof around a bit.

I learned something about my Marauder Wednesday night that I never knew before.

Did you ever realize that at night, the radio on lights-up the features that apply to the mode you are in? For instance, switch from FM to CD and all the preset buttons, as well as "tuning" go dark! Likewise, the Dolby button goes dark too since you aren't in cassette mode. Switch back to FM and the CD features go dark while everything else lights up again.

I feel a little dumb... for the last 18,000 miles I thought I had an intermitent light bulb problem in the radio... here the thing is smarter than I am.

Is this a surprise or have I been living under a rock?

Never noticed, but I'll have to look now. I'm still wondering how turning on the rear defroster causes my radio to blare nothing but static.

Also you can do a speaker test and you can get to a hidden menu to adjust how loud it gets according to how fast the car is moving.

I was listening to a CD after I bought my car and I thought the radio's LEDs needed to be replaced already :P

I've heard of some folks having problems with AM reception that way, but does it block all the radio reception? If it does and you can reproduce it ... take it in to the dealer, because you've probably got an unsheilded or loose connection in the radio antenna or heating system that results in RF noise interference.

I've never noticed any reception problems when using my rear defroster, but then I'm in the south and maybe it isn't working as hard.

It all started on the dual media radios in the '98 Explorer. Nice feature to light up what you can use.

Dang, I've never noticed. Perhaps it's because Barb won't let me go anywhere after dark.

Um, you're not the guy who didn't know about the overdrive button on the gearshift knob, are you? :D

Is this a surprise or have I been living under a rock?Wait till you learn how to use the speed volume. Hold the power button in for about 5-8 seconds and the radio goes into speed volume mode. Use the sel button to set the controll from 1 to 7. I keep mine on 4

mine is set on 5. Anyone here use the tape at all? Does it have a music search function?

Amazing what one can find out by just hanging out here. I checked mine and set it to 5 also. I hope you guys don't mind a lowly C/V owner in here. :)

Hey Royal, it's the damnedest thing. I was looking at the radio yesterday and discovered the pie hole for tapes. It's the first time I realized there was one. Now I gotta go find all my old Alison Kraus tapes.:sing:

Don't feel bad buddy, I actually took the car back to the dealership service department to complain about this and they explained how the radio worked. The next question to me was "didn't your salesman explain this to you?" I just laughed because I do not think he was able to spell his own name.

Funny you should mention this...I was thinking I had a problem with the lights on the stereo too, about a month ago. I was gonna ask if anyone had the same problem, but I got out from under the rock before I posted and figured what was going on :D

I've known about that one for awhile, but seems to self-cancel every so often then I've got to remember the secret handshake to wake it up again.
