A week and a half ago I took my Merc to Sear's for new tires and a front end alignment. Everything went well, even used the tighter Marauder specs from the site, til I got to work. I walked around the car inspecting everything and noticed some small scratches(about the size of a $.50 piece) on the RR rim, not happy.
I immediately called them back and spoke with the asst srvc mngr. who I had been dealing with and told him what I noticed. He asked me to bring the right back but I couldn't due to me having to be at work in 10 mins. He said no problem, bring it in the next day.
The next day took the car in and we inspected the rim. They admitted it was their fault, as they had problems with the alignment tool attaching to the rim. Asked me what I wanted to do and I told hem I didn't wanted to go drastic at first by asking for a new rim. He told me if it was him he would want a new one. Wow I was thinking to myself. But we agreed to have the rim looked at by various wheel repair shops of my choosing. OK no problem, except noone wanted to touch the repair due to the size and depth of the scratches and the fact that the wheel was clear-coated.
So I informed them of the findings and stated i wante a replacement wheel. He told me he would get a reconditioned rim. Told them that wasn't my choice or liking but agreed to let them do it. Well got a call this past Fri that my rim was in. Went in on Sat to check it over only to find out they bit the bullet to the tune of 500 or whatever the cost is for a new one from the dealer.
Not expecting that really made me respect them alittle more. Now most would say should've went to a dealer but I've been dealing with this particular Sear's for the last 3.5 years and have developed a good relationship with them. Guess not all "aftermarket" shops are bad.
Just wanted to share.
