How to tell you need new brakes...

My brother had big time brake issues on his '95 Jeep Cherokee on his way to work Thursday, talking to him, it was clear he had let the pads wear too far. I came over Saturday morning to help and wow I have some awesome pics! One of the rotors was pretty good, just normal wear, the other one, well...I'll let the pics do the talking...

Holy Cow! I could not figure out what picture 0034 was!!

That must have made a terrible sound!

I know, someone mis-took it for a ring gear from a ring/pinion gearset. It is ofcourse a rotor with one face completely worn down exposing the vent vanes.


How it got this bad is beyond me, the good news is no one was hurt. Oddly enough the brakes worked until the caliper broke causing a loss of hydraulic pressure, so, kudos to jeep I guess!

Worked on a Lincoln back in the late 70's had the same problem. Lady driver came in and said she had noise in the front. She had worn thru the pad, the backing plate and was using the caliper piston on the vanes to stop the car!! I'd liked to have seen the fireworks at night!
