Guys, got my new radio installed today. The GM at the dealership admitted to me that these radios had had some problems.
It looks new anyway, with a plastic covering over the display, but no idea if it's a rebuilt. Works perfectly, so so much for the tint excuse. Actually gives louder sound at a lower volume setting than the other one, or seems to anyway if that makes sense. 4 bars is as loud as 6 or 7 was on the old unit. Only two differences:
1) I set the RDS on both the old and the new, but this one shows the station identifier all the time which is a nice touch. The old one only intermittently.
2) I held down the power button for a few seconds to set that speed volume setting I read about here, just like I did on the old one. Set it to 4, then 5, then max to 7. Nada. Sets OK and shows the value, but doesn't do a thing, and unlike the old radio there are no bars that come up on the display to show the speed volume increasing. The old one would always flash something on the display when you sped up. Can't tell if it marginally increases volume or not but it doesn't seem to.
I wonder if they disabled it in later versions of the radio and tweaked the firmware to ignore it? It is kind of a hidden feature, and I wonder if it was related to the failure of these units? As it was such a PITA to get this one in I am inclined to just leave it alone.
So Q: do you other guys who have that SV setting notice a bar display on the screen when you speed up?
Thanks for any info.
Oh, interesting feature that I learned from Warren on the other thread: pressed 3 & 6 at the same time and it did a sound transfer to each of my speakers in turn, ending in "Subwoofer II" which was silent of course. (?)
Supposedly pressing 3 again right after 3&6 will give signal strength, but I haven't tried that yet.
Regards,
Norm
