As discussed in other threads:
Pressing 3-6 cycles the speakers; before the end of the cycle:
Pressing 1 - radio goes into Self test (which mine failed)
Pressing 2 - displays DICS Found
Pressing 3 - displays the signal strength(?)
Pressing 4 - displays Soft Levels
Pressing 5 - radio shows Display test with all LEDs lit
Pressing 6 - displays Radio Config
Questions - someone explain these functions, please? Also, how do you get the radio out of these test modes without shutting it off? Lastly, how do you configure the radio or change any of the functions while in test mode? Couldn't get any changes with any of the radio controls.
Thanks in advance.

It wasn't too long ago until most of us found out one of the radios standard features, which displays the radio station. I think you are a wee bit ahead of most of us...Cool though

OK guys, I've waited 2 days and have received no answers. Doesn't anyone of you with an OEM radio at least a little curious to see if their sel test passes? I can't tell whether my failing test is bogus or not without someone stepping up to the plate and giving it a try. If your radio is giving poor performance and the radio self test works, then Ford can't give you the ol' "we can't duplicate the problem" and refuse a replacement under warranty. Any thoughts?

Sorry about the wait. Maybe this weekend I can shut of the engine and listen to the radio. Mine is an 04 so it hasn't been on the road long enough yet to listen to anything but the mufflers and rear tires. Sorry. Dennis:)
Derik,
Mine passes the self test, has no DTC's, has a signal stength of 50 (?), and does the LED test. I have no clue as to what the levels or the config settings/tests are all about. I will research it and get back to you.

Couldn't figure out how to get out of it without turning it off either. But, it passed the self test, no DICS found, sig strength 55, soft levels, all leds, config was Config 1 (found this by pushing the right side tune lever). On a side note, with the speaker test, all was fine till the second sub lit....got nothing. Must need a replacement.

No, the second sub is dead on mine as well. I think that's only because we don't have one by default.

Thanks fellow Marauderers. Now I know my radio is a failure. Still worth getting it replaced under warranty and have the steering wheel controls available.

if u get an aftermarket radio you can still use the steering wheel controls if you get an adapter. that is what i have

OK guys, help me out here. Mine works great, now that I got a new unit installed from the dealer this week, the self test says passed, the led's all light up, the signal strength shows as 70 and I don't know what the config and the soft levels are about.
But #2 says "DTC's found." What's that mean? Is it detecting faults of some kind? You would think they would actually break down and put some of this info in the friggin' manual!
Thanks for any info.

OK, just got it resolved in case anyone is interested. Pressed 3 & 6 and then 2, showed "DTC's found." Pressed the tuner button and message said "U2003 CDDJ", then pressed it again it said "CD Hot."
Then pressed the eject button on the internal CD and it immediately changed to "DTC's clear."
Not sure why because "CDDJ" is the 6 CD disk changer in the trunk. (?) In any case, I think it has something to do with the new stereo, but have not been able to get it to repeat, which is all good. FYI, when I pressed the eject button the message cleared but the CD did not eject.
Thanks.
Norm,
That U2003 code is related to a communications failure and is likely resultant of the new radio searching for peripherials. If you cleared the code and it did not come back, you're probably set to ROCK! By the way SOFT LEVELS is the resident software programmed into the radio and CONFIG is the configuration of the system in your car (e.g. 4, 5 or 6 speaker, CDDJ or not, Phone or not etc.). Glad to hear you're back in the jams. :cool3:
Good Luck,
J
