View Full Version : new member intro (2003 silver MM)
Hey-
Not sure if this is the right place for an introduction or not, but it seems to be.
I have been lurking for a few days now and figured I would introduce myself.
I just picked up a silver 2003 MM. It had less than 9,000 miles on the ticker when I bought it. It has traction control, power pedals and heated seats (light grey leather). I got it for less than $20K (which seems to be a reasonable price here in the Midwest).
I am in sales and drive about 40k a year. I was looking for something big that was not completely boring…so I ended up with the MM.
So far I like it pretty well. I have not seen a torque chart on this thing, but it seems to be a little flat around 3000 rpm, but it really sings once you get above it. Since this car will be my daily driver and I need to retain reasonable mpg’s…major mods will not soon be forthcoming. I wouldn’t mind chipping it (the Xcal2 seems to be popular around here) and doing something with the intake and/or MAF(?) to smooth things out a little bit.
Then only immediate need I see for the car is a set of CVPI take-off rims for winter use.
Last thing…I have been looking for seat covers for this thing for a couple of weeks now and have had no luck. Any suggestions?
Take care.

Welcome to the Collective, resistance to moding is futile. You will be assimilated.

Best first mod could be the chip/tuner with good TC management!!
I like mine set to lockup in 4th gear only at about 50 MPH but others like it at higher speeds??
The Xcal-2 will allow you to adjust these parameters to your liking!! :bows:
Welcome to "The Family"!!

Welcome!!!
You will love your new-to-you MM.
Regarding snows, 16", 17" and 18" will work if you are stock. There are lots of threads floating around with sizes and brands.
Regarding seat covers, not a clue.

I will second the call for the Xcal type tuner. Changes the driveability markedly.
May also want to look into the alignment specs on the board here.... and consider that. These cars are HARD on their front tires with stock alignment specs. Since you are going to be travelling so much.. might save on some sneakers.
Oh, and on that note... stock OEM rubber can be problematic to get sometimes. Might want to buy some sneakers while you don't NEED them... so if it takes a couple of weeks ... you aren't stuck.

For best tire wear, here is what I use on all MM alignments:
Camber: 0 to -.3 degrees.*
Toe: Zero degrees.
Caster: 5-6.5 degrees positive with .3 degree lead on the right side.
Does this match what you know to be true for increased front tire wear?
Thanks.

Them is the one! :) If it is from carfixer you can take it to the grave around here and everywhere.:bows: I have read threads until my eyeballs have fallen out and I have never seen one on seat covers. I suppose that the national mail order companies probably have ones that would fit. I think it would be a first time mod here in the Marauder Nut House. Welcome and good luck. The tuner will change your ride mucho. Dennis:beer:

Good morning and welcome to the club.
On the seat covers you will probably have to have
them made. You might try California car covers. They ain't cheep
But they sure do nice work. Good luck and enjoy your ride.

Welcome! And you can forget about not doing many mods. A lot of us thought that way once!

cb13, Welcome :welcome1: to the MM.Net and Happy Maraudering !!
Power pedals ?? .... Seems some pedals around here apply much more power (see mods).
Not completely boring ?? Don't think you have to worry about the MM and the Grin that comes as standard equipment. It is probably the least boring car that I have ever owned. :D

Welcome! I second the motion on the Xcal2 tuner. Just got mine and loaded the tune from Dennis Reinhart yesterday. The tune definitely finds some more horses, smooths out transmission shifting issues, and removes flat spots from the acceleration. When my wife drives the car gently, it is still well behaved at light throttle and around town conditions.
......I second the motion on the Xcal2 tuner.....The tune definitely finds some more horses, smooths out transmission shifting issues, and removes flat spots from the acceleration.....that is exactly what i am looking for...at least from what i have noticed in the first 1,000 miles or so. it seems to stumble a bit below 3k rpm at less than wot and initial throttle tip in is kind of "grabby" (if that makes sense).
so i have an issue: kenny brown is about 15 minutes from my office. so, do i go with the "preloaded" xcal2 or take her up to kb and let them do the tweaks?
anyone had experience with them both and can compare?
ps, i am afraid to take the car into kb just because i would be very tempted by all his other goodies!
