Edelbrock nitrous kit

Ok, I don't mean to start another N20 opinion war, and I understand that many of the people on the forum think that N2O systems are junk but...

I'm ready to order the 80 shot system from Edelbrock. The guys that did my gears and the dyno stuff for the Sarge say this is a no-brainer installation and a dinky little 80 shot dry system won't even make the motor sweat.

They called their distributor and the kit is available for about $500. It's just a matter of another phone call at this point.

Am I really going to be the first kid on the block with a juiced MM? Would anybody mind if I was the crash test dummy for this project? I just need somebody to dare me to do it...

Yup. $500 buys you a tank, a switch, a little nozzle, and some tubing. Yee-Ha!

The wrenches in question think that the ecm & injectors will compensate properly at this low level, but they suggested I spend more money to add a line purge at the very least.

The r e a l question is can I get all the N20 junk off the car before I get towed in to the dealer for funny engine noises and a dent in the hood from the inside.

Billat, why do you say that? Isn't a blower also artificial, then?

And to all the other naysayers, I'm curious why you don't think this is a good mod...does it stress the innards of the motor any more than putting on a blower?

There's nothing wrong with nitrous if installed correctly. Thousand's of cars and owners are using it now with problems no more than with other power aids available.

Any mod to get more power is putting more stress on engine and drive train components...the trick is to not over stress these components and therefor have breakage...and these things will break sometimes without mods...car companies manufacture cars to withstand factory power and not anymore...it cost them money to do so and we know they are not going do that...so if you mod your car you are taking a chance of voiding your warranty and damaging your car, period...you got to know that going in...yeah some dealers will work with you but you still take a chance...IMHO with what funds I have to deal with and that I do not need my daily driver out of commission it is better for me to take an cheap old vehicle and juice it up for hot rodding...lot less $ and can really go crazy with mods and get a 11 sec car for less than $10,000, ie. mustang...but if you have the money knock yourself out because I would do the same if $ on hand...OBTW I have seen N2O kill more engines than any mod...mainly because people try to 150hp shot 4 and 6 cyl, and 250hp to 8 cyl...burned pistons...bent valves...blown head gaskets...use a little common sense...it always helps...

The concern that was pointed out to me was that this is a dry system, with no fuel enrichment other than what the stock injectors can provide. On a totally stock car this may be fine, but with the addition of the Reinhardt chip bumping up the timing, I may be inviting disaster.

When I asked Dennis about it he pretty much said "no way", at least on a dry system.

I wouldn't put a dry system even on a stock MM. Think about it, our drivetrain isn't the simplist system out there, and is refined for it's purpose. But then again, I'm biased and will never touch a wet or dry system. I see a chip as "tuning" the car, like that of timing/fuel teaks of older motors. I see a blower as being legit because the motor is actually turning the thing to produce the extra power. Something just sittin' in the trunk that you activate with a button just takes all the fun outta it.

I'm taking mine to the track to see what she can do following the 4:10's and Reinhart chip mod. If all goes well and the supercharger is not available yet, NOS will probably be next.....
