Are there any dealers who take modded Marauders on trade for a fair price? My local Porsche dealership isn't sure what to think about my Marauder, and it shows on the trade in value.

If I'm going to loose my a** on a car I would rather sell it to someone who wants it and not some dealer who will send it to the auction.

I'm still not real sure what I'm going to buy, but I'm trying to do some planning.:)

A dealer will only take the car if they think they can find another buyer with YOUR TASTES. That is why most dealers I've ever talked with don't want to touch custom/modified stuff.

In a similar direction, I collect vintage motorcycles. It is amazing how much I have spent undoing the modifications that were done before me. The most valuable bike I own is my ORIGINAL 1967. Nothing was cut, chromed, painted, or modified since it left the factory in late 1966. Most people consider it to look like it sat in a time warp. The only problem I had was with a limited number of paint chips over the years. I used a clear touchup, semigloss, to cover them so no surface rust.

STOCK always works for the collector market:)

That is funny. Not for you of course and not that way. You see I am in the process of selling my 911 Carerra Cab and buying another family car so that I can put the Marauder in the garage for weekend and SPECIAL use after s/cing it. I have had Porsches for 25 years including 2 911 Turbos and this Marauder is more fun than any of them. Good luck. The advice above is pretty correct. Your best bet is probably a Ford dealer who sells Saleen, Rousch and Cobra mustangs. They understand high performance autos and performance moding. Your Porsche dealer doesn't even know what a Marauder is and has no concept of why anyone would want one. Most of his customers are just as ignorant and supercilious as he is. His market for your car is the auction. Again, good luck. Dennis  PS: you will find that the PCA cannot hold a candle to the fellowship you have here. You will miss this site and We will miss you.

I imagine the resale market for cars is similar to that of harleys... you can spend twice as much in mods as the vehicle costs, just be sure that when you do so it is for your own enjoyment because when you go to sell that vehicle all those mods will most likely be overlooked. Even if you inform the dealer of all the upgrades they wont care.

I learned a long time ago in the motorcycle business (and cars too im sure) what ever extras you add are really for your personal enjoyment because you will get no monetary return (or VERY minimal) on your investment upon resale.

I hope you can find someone who appreciates and is willing to pay a fair price for the mods. But if the s/c is going to muck up a fair trade, why not just take the kit off and sell it separately?

The dealer who is buying your MM, and what you are trading for. I don't think a Porsche/Audi dealer will be interested in a modded MM when trading for a hot new model like the Cayman.

And even Saleen/SVT/Steeda dealers may not be interested. Team Ford, where almost 100% of the mods done to my car and MM's from all over the country, basically told me they were'nt interested in my modded MM -- too hard to sell to the typical used car buyer, not a mustang or lightning. I was told to sell it to another MM.NET member or other private buyer.

I have to give credit to Schien Chevrolet, who stepped up and gave me an extremely fair trade on my MM, an actual cash value trade that was $4000-4500 above book value for the MM in the Birmingham area (trade values are different based on location), and did so because of the mods. They looked the trade over, even had it on a lift in the service department to look at the under car mods. Granted, I spent more than $4500 in mods on my MM, but I did well for a dealership trade. I probably would have been able to sell it for maybe $2000 more private sale, but WHAT a hassle and I still may be looking for a buyer today. Course, it helped that I was trading for an 05 that the dealer had "clear out" dealer cash, and discounted the new car nearly $12,000 from MSRP on top of the generous ACV trade value. The amazing thing, too, is that local LM dealers have NEW '05 Grand Marquis's in the paper for less than the ACV trade on my '03 MM.

You defintely can't trade in a four door family sedan to a dealer that speciallizes in 2 door coupes, no matter how special it is. He sure won't know how to market it to get like minded folks to buy it, especially if he doesn't take it out and drive it, i mean really drive it.

Good luck,

Very interesting point. My Marauder is almost paid for and if I don't get a good price I will simply keep it. There is no doubt that every one who rides or drives this car loves it, Including myself.

I kind of feel like this is the best time for me to own a car like a Cayman or a 911. I have even thought of buying a used Boxster to see if like the Porsche experience. Kind of testing the waters.

Mr. Crabs, Don't get me wrong, they are lovely cars and effortlessly go like stink. The 996 as so smooth and easy to drive fast that my mother at 87 could drive it well with a little practice. The dynamics of these cars is incredible. You would love a Boxster. Buy a Boxster S newer that 99 to avoid the nightmare of the engine, transmission problems of the first Porsche automated assembly production (in Denmark by the way) and by all means get a Porsche Certified car as you just think MM are expensive to service. A drop top next to your Beast will give you a great garage. One warning, as you know enough is not enough. Just as with your Marauder there is no way to stop the quest. There is always a newer, more powerful better performing model that looks just as good as it performs and better yet an unending list of wonderful upgrades, additions and mods. For every one option we have they have THOUSANDS. Bring copious amounts of cash. The Jones' as spending money, well, like money. Good luck. Keep your Marauder. It is more fun than the cash it will bring can buy, legally. Ask Martyo. Dennis

Dennis  We'll see. My family dubbed me Mr. Crabs for a reason. They call me cheap, I prefer "fiscally conservative". :)

klmore - Since your Marauder is almost paid off I would keep it. :D
IMO you will be sorry if you sell it.
