Well I was out and about in Jupiter yesterday to find a mechanic to put in my 4.10's. I was trying to find the best price and a good place to maybe do further mods and such. As you all may recall, I was quoted 8-900.00 by TPS in West Palm Beach because "these take a while to get right". My first stop was at Jupiter auto repair and the mechanic comes out to my car, sees my gears, and says that the 4.10s are too big and that the biggest my car can have are 3.73s...WTF???????? So I told him that wasnt true and thatI know 20 people with them in their car. He then proceeds to tell me that I need to completely rebuild my rear end for best results (strike 2), by this time I wanted to leave, but was curious to see what they were going to quote me. He gives me a quote of 563.00!!!!:mad2: Now remember I already have the gears, new rear end girdle, and stud kit. I told him he was on crack and that many performance places charge 500-550 for gears AND installation. He said I was full of crap. So I gave him back his estimate and told him where to stick it. Anyways, to make a long story short, I went to 5 other shops and the lowest quote I got was 350. The last place I went to was a place I was told about called Performance auto and they specialize in mods. The guy quoted me 250. FINALLY!!!! someone who knows WTF they are talking about. So I have an appointment set for monday.

What is the deal with mechanics? Why do they try to rob people blind and feed you full of crap? How do they even get a job when they dont even know that an 8.8 rear end can house a larger gear than 3.73s? I really wish there was a ford/svt specialist in my immediate area. I have to drive over an hour to find one. Anyways, I had to vent.

Ahh yes I was told from a local mechanic that I was crazy to mod my car since its already "Supercharged" from the factory. It makes me want to slam a few of these dopes in the head with my hood when I have to show them what the Marauder has for a engine!

Well next time you come across someone who is quoting way too much for a service like that. You should ask them if that includes new braided flux capacitor lines as well as a fluid change for the capacitor. If they say yes then it might be a pretty good deal. ;)

You have done well price wise. I remember you asking some time ago about how to find a place close to you.

The question remaining now is...
...is this place good to go?

If he says there to big! who would want him to touch
the car, never mind put the gears in..if It takes that long
to so called get it right. They probably
don't know what they are doing either..
overcharging is a way of sayin thats a pain in the axx
job..
I have seen diffs explode destroying axles housings, drive shafts
and ripping transmissions out of vehicles..If there is any question
as to someones ability or willingness to do the job don't do it..
referrals and people specializing in this install highly recommended..
