I just received a letter from Ford Motor Co. congradulating me on the purchase of my 2003 Grand Marquis and offering an extended warranty. They are clueless since I purchased a MM. Wonder why the dealers don't have a clue because it starts at the top. They are totally:confused: John

It's because the Marauder is based on a Grand Marquis. The M75 code in the VIN is a Grand Marquis LS. The only way to tell it's a Marauder is by the engine code.
For 2004 production, the Marauder gets it's own "M" code

I went and registered at "My Mercury" and at first the site kept saying my VIN was "invalid" It now recognises it as a 2003 Marauder

The good news is that the insurance companies think it is a Grand Marquis, which means cheaper insurance, and, in the case of GEICO, may mean the difference between their placing coverage or not.

My rates with Geico went up almost 35% when they finally discovered mine wasn't a regular Grand Marquis. Needless to say I dropped them and am now with Metropolitan. They correctly IDed the car as a Marauder and my rates are back to what they were with Geico before the rate increase.

Fourth: How did GEICO get wise to your car's true identity?

They know the true identity by the engine code in the VIN. The Marauder has a "V" after "M75" the Grand Marquis a "W"
Both engines are 4.6s, but any opportunity to have an excuse to raise rates on something and most Insurance companies will take it.

State Farm knows mine's a Marauder and charges a small premuim for it.

Farmer's lists mine as a Grand Marquise and when I go to to the dealers web site they list them as Grand Marquise. If you don't know the cars code or list price you'd never find a Marauder!

Chapel that's very true. Many Dealer web sites list them as "Grand Marquis Marauder" when you scan a list of inventory the "Grand Marquis" part tends to blend with the other regular "Grand Marquis" listed and "Marauder" sort of disappears

Hey jgc61sr2002, just received the same letter you did from Ford and it had the same discription "Grand Marquis", thats ashame how they totally disreguard what they actually sold me, "it's a Marauder damn it, it's a Marauder". :fire: :po:

How does insurance class the MM? Class number run 1 - 25. 25 being the most expensive to insure.

I'm with Nationwide, and they know it's a Marauder and use a very high symbol to rate it. Nothing gets by them.
