View Full Version : brand new batteries sitting from 2001
As my 94 Impala SS's battery is toast I was thinking of putting in one of my other two batteries that I have in storage in my other two cars which are in storage themselves. They were essentially brand new batteries when I parked them in October 2001. One of them was used for from April to October 2001 year only and the other was never used (I had purchased it right before I put the car in storage). They are not connected ofcourse. The question is, would they still be any good as they have been sitting in the cars in outdoor storage where it gets extremely cold in the winters and extremely hot in the summers? A friend said that after 4 years of non use and no cycling that they may be toast. Any theories?

I'd be suprised if they worked. Most likely very very dead. Next time get a "battery tender", they are less that $50.00 and they'll keep a battery charged up.
What does a battery tender do? Is it a trickle charger?

It's a trickle charger with some "smarts" to stop charging the battery when it's fully charged.
