I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of this site who are Veteran’s. I am a firm believer that our Vets. do not get the credit that they deserve for the job that they do. Being a member of the Law Enforcement community, I know that you are in a thankless job. Even at this time of war, I think that we as Americans should appreciate ever thing that the members of the military do for this wonderful Country of ours, after all you protect our Country and help keep it freedom.

For those of you out there, who think that it is OK to burn our Countries Flag, or think that you should not stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance or that its words to be change because it offends people, I only have one thing to say to you, move to another Country. This great Country of ours was founded by fighters and many men and women lost their lives to protect us. So once more thank you to all of our Veteran’s and God Bless You and you families.

Nice! Thank you very much. After 17 years of duty, I still say it is harder on the families we leave behind than it is for those of us that deploy. Seems like the only time the fridgerator quits or the washing machine breaks or the sink starts leaking or the kids get sick is when we deploy. I salute all Vets and thier families, too on this day.

I second the motion. I know there are a lot of Vets on this forum. I served during Vietnam, but never got involved in all of the nasty stuff.

All I can say is "Thanks Guys/Gals!". I hope you all have a great day!

On this Remembrance day in Canada and Veterans day in USA I too would like to thank all of the veterans. I sit in my living room and look at a painting on my wall done by my grandfathers cousin, Lieut. A. Harold Goodman, 116Bn, Central Ontario Regiment, who died at Ameins in August of 1918 at the age of 21. He, like tens of thousands of others sacrificed his youth and his life for the freedom that we enjoy today. While I can't thank him, I can and would encouarge everyone who meets or knows a veteran to extend a hand and let them know that you are aware and appreciate the sacrifice that they have made.

At the risk of being overly sentimental I reproduce John McCrae's poem below, which I think is especially poignant on this day.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yes, a BIG THANK YOU to all the veterans that have help to provide the freedom and way of life that we all have the right to enjoy. Putting your time and life on the line for us and your Country is greatly appreciated. And I want to make sure that it is Veterans of ANY war or conflict: WW I (not many left from then), WW II, Vietnam, Desert Storm, etc. All of you - my family and I thank you.

What Mat said. It was long ago, but the memories linger, and it's very hard to hold back the tears. Thank you from the depths of my soul.
