View Full Version : How long do I have to wait???

As some of you know my car is in the body shop getting repainted. I was wondering how long do I have to wait to wash/wax the car. I have heard 30 days, 90 days.....your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Mine was re-painted in June('04) and they told me to wax it in September so 90 days:)

if it is 90 days thats gunna suck....I hate having my car dirty, it drives me nuts

I would hand wash it for the first 30 days, NO car wash. Then wax it after the 30 days is up. Give the paint a little time to dry harder. Your more than welcome to hand wash it at my place if you like.

Been a while sense I had a true fresh paint job,but what I was told was to "wash" the car often with ONLY water. In a way dont let it sit dirty.Then dry with only 100% cotton towels.
If the car lives in a garage even wash it in the rain, the goal was to let the paint breath and cure without dirt and grime getting in the way.


Oh and DO NOT DUST IT! Run water over it to float the dust off.

The shop that paints your car should give you a "special" soap to wash it?

If they don't or have never heard of such a soap then pm me your address and I will send you some:)

You need to let the paint cure and harden from the inside out.

I would not wax till 90 days has passed. My 2 cents.
