Finally found someone to do the gears. Need to know if the axle bearings need to be replaced and if they come with the gears. Also what else is needed or comes with the kit. Fluid? Thanks :help: :burnout:

no axle bearings dont get replaced.and no it doesnt come with fluid.ford uses a synthetic fluid which is pricey and you should put it back in with the friction additive.the installer may or maynot change the pinion bearing as it gets pressed onto the new gear set.200-250 is about the fair price for the swap, plus any parts.

R.F. I found a small shop right up the street from my house. Just happens to be directly across the street from my dealership. I still need to check if he has a rotunda 8.8 tool which Mr.Rienhart says is needed . Will keep you informed.

Does a traction control equipped Marauder have any bearing on changing out to the 4.10s?
If so, how much does it increase the cost?
What is a ball park cost to upgrade to the 4.10s? (Parts & labor).
Do you recommend the dealer to do the upgrade?
Stock gears worth $$ in a trade for cost?, or recommend to keep?
A chip w/ 4.10s is a must?

Ron......TC equiped shouldn't have any bearing on price. The gears were about $180 from DR, and it cost me about $200 for the install at a local speed/custom shop. If you can find a dealer who will do the mod, it would probably still be covered under warranty by Ford, but is also questionable there. It will also cost you a great deal more. As for trade in value, who knows, but I doubt it. Keeping the gears and then returning the car to stock prior to trade or sell, well, that would be up to you. Keep in mind, that if you get the orginal PCM flashed for the new gears, you'll have to have it done again when the gears are removed. So, about the chip......this would be the better way to go. It would take care of the speedometer error, and fix the crappy shift pattern of the transmission. Plus, if you get the performance burn, you'll get a little more power......

I know of a place that sells FoMoCo gears for about $140. I don't know how much shipping is. PM me for details since they are not a sponsor.

Just a word of warning - From my Mustang experience, it seems like a lot of places will tell you that your bearings are worn or pitted and need to be replaced. I'm not sure whether that is true or whether the place is trying to make an extra buck. Make sure you get the old bearings from them if they say they need to be replaced.

Editorial comment - I wish we could post contact info for places that are not sponsors. You are doing a great disservice to your users by limiting posts about sponsors. This is the only website I've seen restrict posts.

Thanks. I didn't know that. Once I get their web address, I'll add it - assuming they have one.
